here's a suggestion. On the first page, write down a list of numbered, separate emotions.

On the date you're writing on, take the first line, and simply write down the numbers of what you are currently feeling, then move on, maybe to your diet for that day, who you spoke to, who you didn't, circumstances. Write what your desires are and why.
Think about what your life would be like if you were not a cutter, and write what you want to become. Even original poetry or artwork works in a journal - the idea is to pull out your thoughts and feelings and put them in the book -- SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO LIVE THEM and then LEAVE THEM IN THE CLOSED BOOK and go on with your day as if you'd never had to deal with the negatives. Part of the reason for writing is so that you can learn from looking back - to see how you have grown and matured and progressed away from cutting.

So, Pull what's inside out - lay it on the paper - leave it on the paper - give it a rest - walk away so you can go on with your day or get some much needed sleep.

i'm not sure. i've never had a journal about my cutting. if it's making you upset, then i wouldn't write about your feelings. you need to find some other way to release your feelings. i wish that i could give some good tips. i know that i have a tendency to bite my lip and flick my figures. but, that just replaces the act of cutting into something less destructive. sorry, i'm not much help.
