Do NOT take anything with you that isn't on the list you get from the recruiter. Remember that you're not gonna be able to use any of it in basic (it'll be locked up in storage) and it adds to the luggage you'll have to tote around when you leave for tech school. You get enough issued to you in basic to almost break your back, anyway. As far as clothes, take a couple of changes but it was my experience that none of them fit. I went in at the minimum weight and gained so much in basic that everything was way too tight when I finished. The guys that went in a little chubby lost so much that everything was way too loose. You can always buy civilian clothes at the BX when you get the opportunity to wear them at tech school. Don't take bar soap or electric razors. Both of them are almost impossible to get clean enough to pass inspection. Take liquid soap and a nice safety razor. You'll be given the opportunity to buy anything you missed at your first BX visit in basic. Good luck in your training and thank you for your service!

There is no need to bring anything besides the basics to Basic Training. You will have time to do only what they tell you to and you can have your IPOD shipped to you afterwards. If you need anything in Basic, your TI will make you get it. Do not try to make this a glorious time and all of that and do not think that because you were in Rotc that you are ahead of the pack. That is a big mistake. You are an equal. AROTC didn't even begin to prepare you for the real force. In all honesty, forget everything that your instructors or whoever taught you. It is worthless and does not prepare you for the real Air Force.

Razor; Don't cheap out top of the line, best you can get
No more than $50 Emergancy number
Less is more, so don't bring anything you don't have to
One change of clothes; bland as possible
Soles for your shoes, those first couple of days you'll be in civilian clothes until you can get your uniform issued to you
For Tech school, have all your stuff shipped to you after basic, if you absolutely need some sort of entertainment for those first couple of weeks, only bring an IPOD.
Computers and DVD players are bad news in Basic
You won't need clothes the first couple of weeks in Tech school, on account of you'll be required to wear only your uniform

I'm an army vet, not AF, so I'm no exactly an expert. However, from my experience in bct, at your current fitness level you would do fine in army bct (basic combat training). Army training is generally accepted as being second hardest to the marines. He hardest part across the board is the mental aspect. They will break you, but that's by design. They want to rebuild you to fit the mIlitary mold. As for glasses, yes you will wear bcg's (birth control glasses haha). I've definitely known airmen who did. I was stationed on ft Bragg my entire enlistment, which is attached to pope arb (actually, the much smaller pope afb was attached to us lol). Good luck, and remember a few tips. Fly under the radar, be in the correct uniform, and honestly, follow the crowd. If one person is wrong, everyone is. You may be able to message/im/email me through here. I'd gladly talk to you more in deph about my experiences and answer any questions i can for you. Btw, I'm 29, and went through basic in 2002, so the info isn't terribly outdated.

Only bring a bag of basic items like shampoo, soap and razor. Don't bring any electronics, magazines or any other forms of entertainment. You won't be able to use them at BMT. In tech school, coomputers will be supplied, but if you want your own, have your family send a laptop and also your Ipod.

Bring Shavers because you have to shave everyday a comb for the little bit of hair you'll have you'll get a hair cut when you get to reception. toothbrush, toothpaste, underwear, nail clipper, pictures of your family and friends no porn or inapropriate content, a calender, shaving cream, stamps and envelopes as well as pens, pencils, and paper, and socks white only no colored socks and they have to be the long ones no ankle socks or no show socks. Unless your tech school is a long one.
There is really no need to bring extra things to basic.
With the restrictions placed on Tech School students now,
You really wouldn't be able to use the stuff at Tech School either.
But I would bring a couple of changes of civilan clothes.
They will just put your stuff in storage at basic anyway.
But atleast you would have somethings, when you get to tech school.
