Ok, earlier this evening I asked her politely and maturely if I could permanently dye my hair. But she said no - I'm not old enough.
But this is something I REALLY want. What would be the best way to get her to change her mind? Ask again? Make a presentation? Write a paper?
What should I do?

I agree with asking if you can have the temp dye. You should find out why she doesn't want you to dye your hair. Does she not want you to do it because you want to do some crazy color or something she thinks will look horrible on you, such as that yellow orange everyone seems to get when they have dark hair and want to go blond? Or does she think that you will make a mess when you dye your hair at home? If those are the reasons she gives you why not ask her if she would pick out the color for you, or you will pay to have it done professionally. What ever you do, do not whine as soon as you do that your mom will tune you out and say no. You want her to believe you are old enough to do this, prove it to her

Well it could just be that you are not old enough...

Young people always seem anxious to do things that cannot be easily undone. Can I get a tattoo? Drop out of school? Lose my virginity? Can you buy me a guitar? A dog?

10 minutes after it's done, they regret it and they are stuck.

It's time, trouble and expense to maintain a permanent dye job. I don't know if you realize this, but natural hair color is usually much more attractive and interesting than any permanent coloring.

If you need a change, get one that washes out in 8 or 24 washes. By the time you are sick of it, you will be rid of it.

Not everything in life works out that well!

Now it's a good time to learn that everything you want in life sometimes you just can't have. Keep it simple and accept yourself for who you are and be proud of your achievements in school that will prepare you for your future rather than focusing on your looks. You will have plenty of time to change your hair color. Respect your mom's decision. I'm sure she loves you and wants the best for you. But for now leave it alone. She will probably come around to it soon.

You don't say how old you are, but if you have to ask your mom, then you are young enough to do what she says. Maturity is in your actions. She said no. The mature thing would be to let it drop.

when you are older and living on your own you can do whatever you want...but till then, parents rule....dyeing your hair can be expensive, if you want it to look good, and then there is the maintenance of continuously dyeing the roots, and then the damage to your hair from all those chemicals...

Please listen to your mom, she knows what she is talking about. Dying your hair is really hard on it, it drys it out, and when your hair grows, the roots look like crap, so you have to keep on coloring. I color my hair to cover gray, or I wouldn't color at all. Wait til you are a little older, and don't have to ask your mom's permission. I wouldn't let my daughter color hers either. At least if you ruin your hair, it won't be your mom's fault for letting you color it.
