I know I screwed up big time. But I need some help. I used to live in TX and one night , I had some "fun" with someone. And she now has a child. Now she NEVER told me that she was pregnant the whole time I was there. I moved out of TX during her first month of pregnancy. Suddenly I get this email from another friend of mine saying she has my kid. I was shocked that she never told me. I gave my email address to her and I got an email from my son's mother. She said she wanted me to sign all my rights over and she wanted NO money from me. Now she has decided to sue me for money. After I got a letter from the Attorney, I contacted them immediately about the issue. On the Attorney's papers, it says "if travelling is difficult for either parent, we can do a conference call. I contacted them I explained that I can't travel beacause I had no money whatsoever. They turned and said By their discression, will they do a conf. call. She wants all this money that I don't have. What do I do???

I'm also a full time student. I'm willing to pay but I I want her to know that I'm very angry for her not involving me in any of this.

Are you sure it's yours? Ask for a paternity test. Although I don't know who would have to pay for it.

Contact Legal Aid immediately.

Hopefully you saved whatever correspondence you might have received from her. Her claim is probably unenforceable if you live in another state, but it would strengthen your case if you were willing to pay something for support of the child.

The story suggests the lady may have had someone else who was willing to pick up the tab on the baby and something happened--either she wanted more money or something fell through.

The best way to strengthen your case is to make a good faith effort to provide something. If you are able to support the child you should also be entitled to visitation rights, and you should pursue those.

But do see an attorney of some sort as soon as you can. Are you in the military services? If so, see your JAG immediately.

Step One: Paternity test
Step Two: Be nice.
If and when you sign on that birth certificate and you make payment #1, in the state of TX, you are recognizing that child as yours and your responsibility. So make sure the child is yours. Yes, be nice. Be upfront and honest with her, wouldn't expect the same, but here's to hoping. The two of you might be able to reach an agreement, i.e. you holding insurance on said child with less monetary output on child support. Work something out if the child turns out to be yours. Oh, almost forgot. Any money you give directly to the mother is seen as a gift and does not go toward the child support. The state of TX will also suspend licences (professional and driving ) if you are court ordered and do not pay. Fun, huh?

Step up to your responsibility. It takes two to have a baby. It's the price you pay for not using protection!!! It's sad that you seem (from the way you come across in your question) like you want nothing to do with your own child. Either way, now another child is in a broken home and is Fatherless. I feel sorry for the child. It takes A LOT to raise a child, financially and emotionally. Be a man, if you don't have money...get a job or a better job and take care of your child.

what can she do? You said you have no money. Don't give her a cent.Even if she takes you to court you don't have any money. You could move to another State and not tell her where you are. You're not married. It sounds like a one night stand. Don't let her push you around. What ever you do don't get a job.

Find a way to pay it.

Your night of fun is costing her for the rest of her life, and you need to help out in the way you can...with your wallet. However...if you have to pay, you should be able to have visitation with your child.
