Try this for really decadent garlic mashed potatoes:

8 large potatoes, peeled and ready to mash
8 oz. cream cheese, softened
8 oz. sour cream
1/2-1 stick butter
splash of milk or cream
4-5 cloves of garlic that you've roasted in the oven
Generous sprinkling of salt and pepper

When your water begins to boil for your potatoes, salt the water. You'll actually salt the potatoes this way. Add your potatoes, boil til tender, drain, and put back in the pan for a minute or two for the water to evaporate off of them.

In a LARGE bowl, mash your potatoes to your desired texture. Then add your cream cheese, sour cream, butter, garlic, and salt and pepper. Mash and stir until everything is blended. If the potatoes are still too thick, add a touch of milk or cream til your desired texture. Enjoy!

I just add 2-3 peeled garlic cloves to the cold water along with the potatoes, it will be absorbed into the potatoes as you cook them. Heat the milk and butter and pour into the drained potatoes, mash.

boil the garlic with the potatoes...heat the milk (better yet, half and half) before you add it....use an electric beater....throw in plenty of butter, maybe some sour cream, and salt to taste......voila your perfect garlic mashed potatoes!
