So JT, do you like the ones that people are running into with their cars? How about the ones that are eating peoples flowers, shrubs, and vegetable gardens in their urban backyards? Or do you like the deer that starve to death or die from disease because of overpopulation?

I live in whitetail country, so obviously, they would be my preferred species to hunt. My most memorable deer would be my first doe that I shot when I was about 8 or 9 years old. She wasn't extrordinarily big, but she was my first and will always have a special place in my memories.

I truly feel sorry for folks who had parents that didn't take them hunting and fishing when they were children. Not only did they miss out on some quality time with their parents, but they obviously missed some very valuable life lessons as well.

Edited to add: So JT, I guess all of you anti-hunters are vegetarians? Or do you eat beef, pork, and chicken? I can assure you that hunting is far more humane than being killed and butchered in a slaughter house. What your parents did was teach you how to deviate from your natural traits. They didn't do you any favors, for sure. If you were really concerned about "respect for all life", you would be willing to address the role that man plays in the scheme of things. We are predators and whether you like it or not, we have always been predators. We have it in our inherent nature to hunt for our food and consume meat, and we have an obligation to be good stewards of this earth which means we have to help out with population control to prevent starvation and disease which can wipe out entire herds of animals. Of course, it is obvious that you don't have the first clue about any of this because you just think hunting is about killing something, when in reality, that is only part of what has to happen.

I enjoy all types of hunting; it can be just me and my old lab sitting on a sunflower field in North Texas dove hunting, with family and friends deer hunting in west Texas, elk hunting Arizona or Colorado, turkey hunting in Florida, Alabama, Louisiana, or Texas. Hog hunting just about anywhere with a handgun, spear, knife and dogs. Quail hunting with a bunch of friends and some good pointers. Going to Africa for a plains hunt and spending time with hunters from all over the world and getting to make new friends with them. I've been very lucky and fortunate to have hunted most of this blue marble, I've had some great great times and met some friends that are good as gold while hunting. The one thing I can say is that no matter where I'm hunting or what species I always enjoy the fellowship of being around others who enjoy the sport.

Well, if u want the "hunt of a lifetime" hunt Whitetail. Their amazing animals and my favorite. My first kill was when I was 14 out in Pennsylvania. I got out in my stand at around 7. I had a CVA Optima Pro Muzzleloader with me, and I felt confident I could knock anything down at 60+ yd.Then along came a huge brute at least 10 point .Guessed he was about 95 yds. away, way out of my comfort zone. But he was a monster. If I hadn't seen deer before, I would have sworn he was a elk. But I didn't want that long of a shot. I broke out my Primos Doe Can, and bleated him in to roughly 72 yds. Then I held my breath and squeezed the trigger. To my surprise, the old buck just looked around and went back to eating. I looked to the left of the field just in time to see a small 4 point deer buckle at the knees and ceel over. How did that happen u say, well I neglected to observe my surroundings to see the inferior buck, and forgot that the bullets always dropped a couple yds. I didn't get the brute, but he did look good hanging over my GRANPAS mantel. Ya that's irony for ya.

Well, I really like to hunt mule deer in Colorado. They are really quite large compared to most of the whitetail that I now live around. However, if the whitetail that i've eaten here is any indication of the normal taste of whitetail, its a lot better than mulies.
I got my first deer when I was 12. I was with my mom, and we came upon a doe that was laying down. I shot, but not very good. I gut shot her, but she never got up and ran. While we were waiting to approach her, you know, you never approach immediately after a shot, because you don't want to spook them up and then have to trail them, my dad heard my shot and came to see. He finished it off with his knife. It was a good thing. I was shaking so bad that I couldn't have hit her again. I can't wait to take my little girl out for her first hunt.

Florida white tail

Shot at @60yrds with an old Winchester M70 30-06 Springfield w/ 4x weaver scope

150gr Remington core-lok

Waited in an area that had obvious deer spoor for 3 consecutive mornings and eventually shot a two-point spike buck third day, about 11am.

Dropped quick, ran maybe 10yds and keeled over dead.

Bullet never recovered, passed through both lungs, just behind heart.

Entrance and exit wound were obvious, but not spectacular.

Good venison, Didn't like field dressing it. Buried the entrails and brought carcass to ranger station for tag.

Had barbeque with meat.

That's my first successful hunt. I was with my Mom, maybe 16yrs old.

well, the olnly kind i got around here is Whitetail.

Last year was my first one. It was about 7:15, an dwe walked into a bottom with a creek and we knew thered be something in there because they drink out ot of the creek. Not ten minutes after we sat down two does wlked into our view and i was turned the other way. I heard my dad and brother shoot, and both of these deer were about 50 yards away on a hill goin up from us. The one my brother shot at took off and we thought he hit it. My dads was still standing there like nothing happened, so he shot at it two more times. It was still standing there, so i shot it. It dropped dead in its tracks. It turned out my brother missed, and out of the three shots my dad shot, only the first one hit it-in the nose. My shot went right through both lungs and stopped it cold. I still make fun of my dad for shooting it in the nose.
