I'm going to a 50th anniversary party this Sunday and there are these family members that we serious DO NOT LIKE. We want to stay away from them as much as possible. Is there any ideas on staying away from them for about 3 1/2 hours when there are about 150 people there?

And just to tell you, they stare at us a lot because they know we don't like them. And they don't like us. So think of some really good ideas!

And yes, I do have to go! It's a bummer but I'm doing it for my grandma and grandpa. Those relatives are very rude and mean and I hate to be around them. They make me feel uncomfortable. Help me out!

I don't see the problem. With 150 guests, you certainly wont have time to meet with each person, so just make those people ones you don't have time for.

Mainly, always be polite. This will make you look good to the other people that are there. Don't stare at your estranged relatives. If it would be awkward not to speak to them, just smile and be civil, as you would to a stranger, no matter how they act.
It shouldn't be too hard to avoid them unless they pursue you. If you think they will make a point of approaching you to annoy you, have some excuses made up ready as to why you can't stay and chat. You have to go to the ladies' room, you promised to help in the kitchen, you promised to meet your cousin, you promised to show your granma how to scramble eggs, you just spotted somebody you need to talk to. Say "It's so good to see you, sorry I have to run and bake a cake" or "I'll see you soon." Don't get into any discussions.
The idea is, that if a stranger sees you, s/he will think you are nice.

Well, even though you DO NOT LIKE them you have to remember you're there for whomever the party is for and you don't want to ruin their "special day" so you should be cordial and respectful, But if you're mingling and you encounter one of the "mutants from table nine" Politely explain you need another beverage and excuse yourself... or "Oh.. Hey Aunt Maggie... And walk away. You be the bigger person. And if that doesn't work think MP3 player :)

Pretend like they're not there. Enjoy yourself. Talk to other relatives you like. Don't stare at the family members you don't enjoy speaking with. Have a great time with the people you love.

Always keep you back to them and talk to others.
Wear some good sunglasses or the funny spiral glasses with funky eyes on them.

Spike their drink and give them exlax. They will spend time in the restoom.

Do everything as a group. Sit on the opposite side. Order drinks from a different bar. etc.

well... you could NOT go to the reunion... or if you do go then just dont pay any attention to anyone or just ignore people talking or looking at you all together... or you go into the bathroom and sit in there the whole time but i dont think you would like to do that

Ignore them. Surround yourself with people you are friendly with.
Dance. Eat. Drink. Be Merry.
Forget about them! Just have fun and shake them off.

Tell them you want to play hide and seek. Then tell them they get to hide first. End of problem.

Don't give them a thought. If you bump into them move along graciously.
