Cant imagine we are that high. We are horrible in health care. 3rd world countries kick our ***. We have the best in the world if you can pay for it.

No.

Between 1/4 and 1/2 of Afghans don't have access to proper medical care (depending on who's estimating -- all estimates are rough). Although it has gotten better in the last few years...

Note also that some politicians in the U.S. would declare anyone without health insurance as "lacking access", even if they could get health care anyway -- whereas in the 3rd world "lacking access" would mean there aren't enough doctors, not enough hospital beds, no transportation to the hospital, etc. Thus judging by two entirely different sets of criteria.

No it is not true in the slightest.

There are countries of the world that this is true of but NOT Afghanistan.

This is a country where over half the population wasn't allowed to see male doctors and females weren't allowed to get an education. In many ways this still holds true though not officially. That alone debunks the myth.

Also, in case you missed it there is a war on over there and its serious. Kinda hard to have good health care for everyone when you're worrying about funding the war, building infrastructure and other such fundamental needs.

Whenever someone needs a complicated surgery done and they want the best doctors and the best care they come to the United States. Nobody is flying into Afghanistan to take advantage of their medical system. I will take my chances with my HMO.

Everybody in the United States has access to medical care however people just don't want to pay for it. I guess we could make slaves out of doctors and nurses and force them to treat people for free but I have a feeling that wouldn't improve medical care.

If you really want to lower the price of health care in the U.S. then I would urge you to become a doctor, nurse or other health care professional and perform services for free or at below market rates.

If you consider that every village has a doctor, I suppose you could support that claim.

If you consider that he is considered to be a doctor because he learned to read/write and may have completed 8th grade, then you might change your mind about calling it medical care. But that is what he calls it.

The few hospitals there (unless they are western run) are not as clean as western scrap yards and probably about as well equipped. It could take days to get there, depending on where your village is.

Now, do you really want to make this implication? Would you like to enroll in the Afghan medical program?

That is a fantastic question, it is not inconceivable either as the Canadians probably offer medical aid to the Afgani's.

I cannot fathom why you treat your population that way. Universal and free (paid through taxes) health care is (or should be) a right of citizenship in what ever country you live in.

I do believe in a 2 tier system so that the rich can buy treatment if they so choose.

More Afghans are receiving aid than most Americans.

I heard that Al Qaida provides paid vacations, well-paid salaries and a great healthcare package. If they weren't terrorists, it might be worth a look.

Too bad they do a better job of recruiting people than the US military.
