I don't know where you are, but I am almost positive in California, you have to have the bill of sale form from the dmv. You cannot just write up a bill of sale on a piece of paper like the old days...
It could be the same in other states, or wherever you are, so I would go to the dmv, or whatever it is where you are, and find out for sure, and see if they have a form online you can print out and use.

just write your name and the make of the vehicle and the date and put on it the price of the vehicle and the date of sale,and have the buyer sign it,that's all there is to it,once they sign it ,it belongs to them and your no longer responsible for it ,that's about all there is too it now days,good luck ,hope this helps.

You can get one from DMV.
What I did was
I (my name here) on (the date) sold a (2003 Olds Alero) to (the guy who bought) for ($5500 here). I signed it and dated it. Pretty simple!
