Me & my family joke that my dog has a bottomless pit of a stomach. She gets fed a decent amount and even gets the occasional scrap from us at dinner. We don't over or underfeed her. Why does she still want food? Or is it just some dog thing to get as much food as they can?

I've had her since she was a pup. She has medication to prevent heart worms and all that stuff. Also, she is about 6 years old right now.

Most dog foods contain chemicals that dogs like the taste of. This entices them to keep eating.

It's the same as you eating your favorite food, it taste good so you always want more. However, most (I saw that loosely) humans know when they have had enough. Animals have the instinct to just keep eating until they no longer can.

It is just a dog thing. Dogs adapted to be able to eat when ever there was food, and conserve energy if there was no food.

Many dogs will eat until all the food is gone. This is a good reason to feed only good dog food, and only the amount on the bag, so that the dog doesn't get fat.

You have to control te amount of food, don't let the dog do it.

If you are feeding a food with Ground Yellow Corn, Chicken by products, or any other type of meat by products, sorghum, barley I would change foods. Those ingredients are less digestible which means your dog is not getting full on it, so they eat less, and poop more because it goes through them quicker.

I have been using a food for 11 1/2 years and my dogs do awesome on it. Now of course one of my dogs would eat a whole bag if I let because she just has the thought that she will never be fed again. She was in foster care before I got her and had to fight with 5 other dogs for food. Maybe your dog might have that mentality.

Check out the website below. None of the ingredients I listed above are in this food. Their motto is eat less, shed less, poop less!!!

Good Luck!

What kind of dog is she? My dog is a black lab and she also has a bottomless pit. Some dogs are more food motivated than others and some dogs are very picky eaters. Mine is very food motivated and defiantly not picky! She eats everything in her bowl at once, never leaving a crumb. She will eat anything at anytime of the day, given the chance. At 75 pounds, she is not going hungry!

It sounds like she is lacking something in her diet. Many dogs foods are full of fillers and dogs often don't get the proper nutrition from them. Make sure the food contains a meat product as the first ingredient. If not you will want to switch foods.

it's all instinct. dogs in the wild don't know when or if they will feed again, so they gorge themselves whenever it is available.
