My parents bought a bmw for me and I was pretty happy for that. I would probably buy something cheap though. One that won't last more than 5 years because lets face it, she will probably want to buy a nice car and ditch the simple so called "realistic". I would say that a Neon is as cheap as it could get. Good luck

90's Volvos are very good to start on. They are easy on the gas and have one of the best crash test ratings. They also hold up well with regular maintenance.

I don't own one, but a friend of mine bought one for his 16 year old daughter and I may be looking for one for my son. Seems to be the best thing out there.

Any Subaru made between 1980 and 1994.
Specifically a 90-94 Legacy. Stay away from the automatics though, they are junk.

a Nissan sentra is one of the best cars on the market right now,the price of them is right also, and they have most of the luxury,s that all of the expensive cars have, and one thing about those the insurance isn't too high on them either, but i think their one of the sportiest looking cars on the road today ,there a good simple car ,and they will last a long time, its worth looking in to,good luck with it hope this helps.

I would go with either a Dodge Neon (very affordable) or a Ford Escort. My first car was an Escort and it lasted me w/ no problems 350,000 miles.

cutting-edge is maximum inexpensive for me that i know of. in case you prefer the main inexpensive coverage, then the less ability, older, and smaller the motor vehicle, the greater much less costly it's going to be. additionally, are not getting any dashing tickets, etc.
