I love expressionism! Modigliani is one of my favorite artists. I also like Franz Von Stuck and Georges Rouault .
I think that the feeling that an expressionist puts in his painting can be more moving than a realistic portrayal of a subject. Despite what some people say, it takes more talent to communicate this way.

Yes they are if they are good. In the same way that "Representational" artists are not all real artists. What distinguishe "art" from "non-art" is the ability to carry a metaphor. No metaphor, no art. The same holds for literature. That is what makes the Hardy Boys not literature and Crime and Punishment is. (I enjoyed reading the Hardy Boys as a kid.)
