If both were goodlooking would you right away assume that something was going on?

Not always - over the years, most of my friends have been HOT women. And I have never dated (or even hit on) any of them - that would make me a sexist pig!

A friend is just that - a friend. Sometimes even hotties need someone on the "other side" to turn to for advice ;);)

Never assume anything... it makes an "***" out of "u"& "me". Seriously though, who knows? Thats like saying if you see 2 guys or 2 girls together does it mean they're gay? Of course not. Friendships come along on all different levels, and men and women can be just friends.

Yes and no. Sometimes girls just want a guy to hang around with.

My problem is that most girls have more in common with other girls and it seems strange that she would find a best friend in a guy.

I don't know. Just my theory.

idk. sometimes i ask someone who knows the two if things are going on between them but other times i just think that they are good friends. i think that it just depends on the person who is viewing the relationship. i have that kind of relationship with a few of my guy friends, i personally don't think anything of it, but people seeing the two of us could get the impression that there is something more than friendship going on. sorry if this is comfusing. ask if you need me to decipher. haha
