More than not, it is a place where people mock one another and try to come up with the most interesting put-down of another's beliefs. Anyone who wanted to ask an honest question or get a serious answer would have to wade through so much juvenile "babble" that it would be hard to do.

I spend a lot of time, in the public forum debating and discussing with people whose beliefs differ from mine. We don't mock each other, we don't slam each other, and I think that we all come away more intelligent for the exercise.

If all you can do is resort to put downs and mockery, I just think you have never really thought through your own position enough to intellegently defend it.

Thank you Dave. I agree.
I'm encouraged by the number of answers that share that concern. Despite appearances, it almost makes me think the nice people may outnumber the rude.
Besides the disrespect, another thing that prevents more satisfying discussion is that, unlike a blog, only one response can be entered per person, per question. It is a great system for gathering answers, but not good for continuing discussion.
I have continued conversations through email after the original contact here, sometimes satisfying, sometimes not, but at least it is longer than 1 question and 1 response.

Thank you for stating what many of us are also frustrated about.

I can safely say that I respect just about all the opinions that exist out there regarding religion and spirituality. At this site, however, almost everyone represents their position with such narrow mindedness and cynicism, it's hard to continue to keep a positive attitude.

And if...if you have the guts to share an opinion in a thoughtful manner (no matter what your beliefs are), you must dodge bullets from the firing squad.

As others have said, however, there are some wonderful answers here, and some mature discussion coming from Christians, atheists, Muslims, etc. You just got to sift through all the negativity and disrespect to find them.

Shouldn't be that way, but it is. Peace.

There's a lot of hatred out there. On here. This forum is unusually tedious because of the disrespectful attitudes that seem to prevail.
Many substitute sarcasm for intelligent thought-it's obviously easier. Only a few are looking for answers to sincere questions. The rest are an impediment to any meaningful discussion. The anonymity afforded by cyber-space makes it all too easy for obnoxious individuals to express their hate.
Wouldn't it be great if technology could weed out the ******* so the rest didn't have to waste so much time?

This is one of my favorite sections to post answers in.

I am impressed with some of the answers I see in this section that defend Jesus Christ. Not because the answers I see are answers that simply defend Jesus Christ, but because the answers are given intelligently, are backed up with scripture references that are accurate, and do not resort to name calling. Not everyone does that. Certainly not everyone who claims to be a follower of Christ. There are many hypocrites out there that love to be truly hateful toward unbelievers. Other Christians are articulate, thorough, and they do not alter what the Bible teaches despite the offense it causes to some people.

In fact, it's how I met Dave W. on here. Hi, Dave!

And I have posted some responses in this section that are contrary to what our current culture would call "politically correct". I've never had any issues with my posts getting deleted, etc. as far as I know. That's because I answer as respectfully and accurately as I can. I have gotten numerous thumbs down, but I don't really care about that.

If someone thinks Yahoo! Answers is censoring them, maybe what's being censored is their hatred, not their message.

I agree with what you're saying. It seems like it's a little better at times, but then it's almost like a big group of friends arrives and almost takes over the place! Today, there were all kind of ridiculous questions about flying spaghetti monsters, Jesus zombies, and just totally juvenile stuff designed more a christian bashing than honest questions. THEN the Christians get frustrated and start making smart comments back (I've done this myself) and the whole concept goes off the tracks!

Average age here is very young. People go through a period of discovery in their high school and college years where they're working out personal religious and spiritual issues. You see beliefs presented here that just don't stand the smell test let alone deep analysis.

It's the same as when I was in college. It's fun because there's lots of discussion of philosophy and religion, but it's frustrating because the people are immature and don't always a) know what they believe, or b) know how to have a discussion.

Isn't it rather difficult to make sense of anything with a person who believes what the first answer speaks of... and that is meant to be one of the biggest religion on the earth??? They are so unlike what Christ ever had to teach that I'm starting to think "to hell with all of them!"
And these are words from a person who loves people more than words can say. I just abhor man-made "religions"... The Bible is okay as I do believe that it was inspired by the true God... Still I fear men have added, taken away, and have somewhat hindered us from the whole truth that should have been ours... They will answer to God for that! In the meantime, I must worship Him the best way I can in spirit and truth, not putting my trust in any mortal man to whom no salvation belongs.
About honest discussion! People have seemingly become afraid of that like the plague... or they have spent so much time in front of the idiot box that they have more or less become brain-dead! There are so many real things we could be doing with our lives instead of living everyone else's life and allowing them all in our very own living room... I fear we have become as sad excuse for the human race... I'm sorry!

I don't know about others but I know myself and that is I try to answer honestly everytime I answer a question since this is suspose to be a place where you can post your own opinion and knowledge. The thing to remember when you answer these questions is to be yourself and not afraid of what others might think.

Other individuals may be scared of getting bannded from posting or answering so I can see why they might not answer so honestly, however if you answer in a polite way you will not get banned. You just need to know how to phrase your words correctly.

Because everybody has there minds made up, good or evil nothing changes much with intellectual people; 1 Corinthians 1:26

You get to know people on here and learn to avoid the ones that mock and insult. Once you do, you can get alot of good ideas and debate.
