Is there anywhere in the Mormon scripture that endorses this practice?

Jeff Lindsay once said, and is confirmed by certain professors at YBU that it is incorrect to assume that "Walmart" means anything other than "Lessor Sam's Club". 'Club' may be interpreted as 'common group with rituals and customs', and as their are customs and rituals in the temple, it is perfectly acceptable to attend Walmart opening ceremonies, even if the previous prophets stated emphatically that K-Mart is the only one true discount store, which, of course is counter to to the teachings found in ZCMI.

Yes. Mormons are allowed to shop wherever and whenever they want. Each individual Mormon gets to decide how each individual Mormon will act in all places, and at all times.

They would certainly be encouraged not to shop on Sunday (or whatever the local sabbath day is); they would be encouraged not to spend more than they earn on their shopping; they'd be encouraged to buy things for their friends and neighbors too!

Here are the Mormon scriptures that deal with shopping at WalMart:
1. Deuteronomy 2:6
2. Nehemaih 10:31
3. Matthew 14:15
4. Leviticus 25:45
5. John 6:5
6. Ether 10:22
7. Helaman 6:8

And, as I understand it, Mormons don't need to be commanded to do anything. If they have no commandment, they just do whatever they want. They don't need a scripture to tell them what others did in the past--because they've got a prophet that can tell them what to do today.

And, shopping at Walmart, according to him, is fine.

Don't know about Mormons but I saw some Amish folks shopping there. They were mostly buying material.

haha, when I was in Utah, my parents contributed to Desert Industries only (mormon second hand store), the second hand store and if there ws another seconmd hand store, oh well. They would shop there to. They shop wherever its cheap and you get the buy one get one free sales. They use coupons ect. My dad was frugal.

Of course they are. Hey? You're certainly having a struggle with the Mormon church right now aren't you? Why is this? What happened with you?

I care.

Is there a compelling moral reason that anyone should NOT shop at Walmart? If not, leave it as a personal preference.

Joseph Smith said: "we teach men correct principles and allow them to govern themselves".

There is no stance on Walmart. If you think it's a good thing, shop there. If you feel it goes against your principles, then don't.

The Amish sure does endorse it enough, I'm sure there's a scripture some where!

They can shop where they want I'm sure.

I've gone to this church before I'm not sure what the Mormon church has to do with Walmart anyway. I was just there to learn, I'm of another faith.

Doctrine and Covenants section 58 verse 26 should answer that for you.
"For behold, it is not meet that I should command in all things; for he that is compelled in all things, the same is a slothful and not a wise servant; wherefore he receiveth no reward."
It is left up to the individual to determine trivial things like that.
