For my summer job,I work in an EXTREMELY fashionable clothing store, and I mean EXTREMELY fashionable. Now on occasion, we have a customer who comes in who shall we say is a WEE BIT CHUBBY. Anyways so they try to SQUEEZE into our jeans while panting and gasping loudly in the dressing room and the results are simply a DISASTER. Today, I told one of these gals that they are just too small for her and she might want to get a REALITY CHECK or simply LOSE SOME WEIGHT. She was NOT AMUSED and left the store without thanking me for MY OUTSTANDING CUSTOMER SERVICE. Why do my customers get so upset when I provide EXTREMELY valuable fashion advice?

Ellen, they taught us thank you and good day in charm school.
Next week they are going to teach us empathy.

omg, you can't outright tell them that they're fat and gross. lol, but I'm glad someone has the balls to do it. Next time, tell that this brand runs small, so try the next size up. If they can get the button to reach the slit on the $230 jeans, make them buy em. They'll bring them back when they can't get their legs into them next week. Convince them that it may be that time of the month and must be bloated or something, make her invest in some fat day jeans.lol. You need to use subtle hints with women only once since we are the smarter sex.

Maybe you need a REALITY CHECK! You are simply stuck up and way too spoiled. Are you happy with yourself now? Maybe you need to do some work in a thrift shop or wear clothes from a discount store. You know, those clothes are EXTREMELY fashionable for people who have to struggle for money. No one serious on this website is AMUSED that you acted like a snobby creep. Maybe you need to get over your BIG HEAD! I gave you some EXTREMELY valuable people advice. MAybe yu need to work somewhere less FASHIONABLE. I hear Wal-Mart is hiring. But Burger King has some openings too.
Now, Thank You and Good Day

You probably came across as a bit pushy and abrasive. That sounds really rude to someone who doesn't have your level of self esteem. I suggest that instead of telling her to have a reality check or losing weight, you suggest a different size or a different style. This would be the more EXTREMELY valuable fashion advice that would be well appreciated. If you actually look like you're helping them, you'll come across with much better results, more pay, and more clothing sold.
In the case that you can't find a better size for this woman, try reccommending another store for her.
And don't mention the weight again. It just comes across as rude.

Are you kidding? Possibly because you are a b**ch. Outstanding customer service does imply you have the right to be a condescending rude individual. I would hope you would realize it means to treat ALL customers of whatever size, color, class, religion or race in a fair polite and diplomatic fashion. And to have the customer leave the establishment happy they came in, regardless of whether they made a purchase or not.

Lori I think the charm school should give you the highly concentrated classes on empathy. If what you are saying is true you could have politely suggested a style of jeans that would be more flattering.I think what you gave was fashion insults not fashion advice.Be thankful you don't work on commission.

Fashion has nothing to do with reality. If you try to mix the two, somebody's gonna get hurt. Same thing about etiquette. Etiquette and reality have no common path, and if you try to mix the two, it's gonna be a strain. Maybe a worthwhile strain, but a strain nonetheless. God Bless you.

Telling a customer that she needs a reality check or needs to loose weight was extremely rude and if she reported you, I'd be surprised if you still work there. Valuable fashion advise, I don't think so.

Most extremely fashionable clothing stores, employee people with class, and obviously you have none. How sad, that you have to be so nasty. Lets hope you never have anyone make you feel the way, I am sure you made that customer feel.
Oh yeah I sure hope you get paid strictly commission.

OH COME ON!!! You don't tell someone who is overweight to lose weight..couldn't that result in you getting fired if they complain? Are you on commission? If you are you need to get a brain. Why don't you try being a little tactful.."perhaps another size will look better?" Or steer them to a different style. I am by no means overweight but even I find what you said to be rude.

lol Lori! you don't tell someone that! That will make the customer mad. Instead why don't you suggest a store that has jeans for her...er...size. Because I myself have a very hard time finding clothes for my size because I don't like low riders.
