how old is the dog? has she had a recent physical at the vets? what do you consider a short time.

it is very hot out - that certainly plays a part in this especially with the short faced dogs. if you over do it she could have a heat stroke

I really don't think this is normal. I own four Shih Tzus and they can play for hours, it seems, without getting tired. The one will get "bored" with playing and just want you to rub his belly. Is that what yours is doing? The breed is also very sensitive to temperatures. If yours has a full coat, this sensitivity will be severely increased. So, if you are playing outside in 80 degree plus heat, it will tire him out quicker and put him close to heat exhaustion.

To be on the safe side, take him into the vet and have him checked. There are several things that could lead to him being tired that the vet can check for. Good luck to you!

Think that depends on the age of your pet. My puppy has a nap after playing hard for a short time. If it seems to get worse and the dog seems lethargic I would talk to your vet and have blood work done to see if your dog is anemic.
