my dog had the same thing. we took her to the vet, and she noticed how hard and deep she was breathing. She said it might be allergies, and gave her some types of medicine to help. She also said there might be mucus in the lungs, but she can't do much about that. the medicine has helped her though! so if i were u i'd take her to the vet again and ask about medicine. good luck! :)

Take your dog to a different vet if they are not diagnoising them properly. It could be several things. First "Kennel Cough" is common and treatable with antibiotics. Like humans, maybe the first round of treatment was not affective and your dog needs a different antibiotics. In some breeds, collapse lungs are possible. This can cause a coughing. I'm not sure what the treatment is for this but it is checked by a chest x-ray. I had a dog with a bad cough that came from the pound that went through all of these tests. It took 2 different types of antibiotics to get her well.

Did they do a heartworm test? Take x-rays? Do any blood work? You have to have these things done to find out what it is. If the vet you went to doesn't seem worried enough to do the tests to find out, find a new vet!! Call first thing in the morning to make an appt. Try to pay attention to when she seems to be coughing the most (after exercise or eating, etc.), this might help your vet decide what tests to run if you can't afford all of them.
Good Luck!!

If it gets to the point where she can't do anything and she has a hard time drinking and eating from coughing so much then there is something seriously wrong. Talk to your vet about simple antibiotics to help clear the mucous. Most vets don't usually like doing that, but if the coughing is getting worse then the vet will have to do something.

Don't worry she's not dying.

Find a new vet mucas in teh lungs would show up in an xray and could be pneumonia and should be being treated.
Doesn't sound like your vet is really trying to help your dog.

Did your vet send you home with any meds?? If not I'm surprised that they didn't give you some antibiotics, Guafenisin or another mucous thinner. Go get a second opinion and see if there aren't some meds that can help her. If she recieves proper meds she should be fine and recover in no time. Good luck

Dogs cough for many reasons. If your vet is not helping you and you are worried, take her to another vet for a second opinion. Sometimes coughs are not serious and sometimes they are signs of something very very serious.

Has she been with any other dogs recently?? Is she up to date on her shots, like kennel cough??

Find a different vet, and get a second opinion, asap.

Coughing is a clinical sign of many things, from kennel cough or other respiratory disease, to heart disease. Only your vet can find out what is wrong. We can't tell you. If he is not improving on medications, then it may be time to pursue more diagnostics, such as ultrasound and/or chest radiographs.

no medications? X - rays? her age would be a factor. could be congestive heart failure, tonsilitis or any number of things.
