At 16, you can pretty much learn any martial art and still be considerably good. People older than you have started martial arts and have managed to reach international competition level.

Are you looking to learn a martial art or do you just want to train with people and have fun doing it?

Taekwondo has structured training and though is a good work out, can become boring if you don't have serious interest or interest to train to a high level.

I would recommend instead that you do capoeira. It's a good workout and unlike taekwondo it really works out the upperbody as you'll be doing things like handstands, cartwheels and the such. You'll gain overall body conditioning in terms of strength, flexibility and stamina.

If you've never heard of it, go to youtube and look it up for videos.

Capoeira training is hard, but the environment is generally more fun and the training leaves more room for you to experiment with your own moves and express yourself, which you will not really find in any other martial art.

You can grade, or not grade and it doesn't really matter, cause improvement is totally up to you and everyone is trained the same, whether you are just beginning or experienced.

Plus, it's really cool, and loads of fun once you start getting good.

That's wayyy to old for Tae Kwon Do. You should have started at age 4 to get your black belt at age 8. Well, since you're a teen now, you can start anyway and earn your blackbelt at age 18.

normally people start tae kwon doe at an early age like i did. i started when i was like in 3rd grade. but, there are also a lot of people who start when they're in like their late 20s, early 30s. so, i mean, there really isn't an age thats "too late" unless your like in your 40s. lol

Yes you can. You are still young enough to gain the flexibility required for those amazing kicks.

If you are worried about never reaching the ability of someone who has done TKD since childhood, then I would suggest going to Aikido or Jiujutsu. Almost no one under 16 does these arts because they are too complex.

You are just entering your prime for TKD training. My dad started at 53 and is almost a black belt. I teach a TKD class and have found that my best students are in their late teens and early twenties. TKD works great as a beginning style. So you still have plenty of time to use TKD as your base style and specialize in anything from shotokan to mauy tai to tai chi later.

dude, its never too late to get into a martial; art. taekwondo is good for beginners, so i recommend that. once you move up, tho, try to find a brazilian juijitsu or muay thai place. thats what will teach you how to fight.

we get this question every day, but usually its asked by people in their 30s or 40s. they get the same answer. i started at 15 after like 5 years of not doing it, so you got nothing to worry about. i say go for it.

of course its not too late. for learning something like piano, and actually being any good at it, i think that ship has sailed ( started piano at 18), but for this if youre dedicated, now is the perfect time. and youre still young, thats the best part!
