Matthew 16:18 And I also say unto thee, that thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my CHURCH; and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.

1 Timothy 3:15 but in case I am delayed, I write so that you will know how one ought to conduct himself in the household of God, which is the CHURCH of the living God, the pillar and support of the truth.

"Wherever the bishop appears, there let the people be; as wherever Jesus Christ is, there is the Catholic Church."

Christianity evolved from Judaism. Paul was in Antioch. read the book of Acts. There is nothing in the word of God that makes a church specific to catholic origin. Paul sent letters to the churches but I do not remember him being a Father over them? The churches also wrote him about things in the church asking his advice.

The church in Jerusalem. This was the one that is wrote about in Acts Chapter 2 - fifty days after the Passover - that would be fifty days after the crucifixion of Jesus.

Acts Chapters 2 through 7 tell about the early church in Jerusalem. This story ends with the stoning of Stephen which really sums up why many people left Judaism and became Christian.

The second church (congregation) was formed in Samaria - this begins Acts chapter 8.

Christianity was well entrenched way before any one in Italy decided the "Church in Rome" was in charge.

The catholic church is the original church, all other denominations came from this one church.

Now, we use the word christianity to cover all believers of christ, including the catholic, anglican, penecostal, baptist, evangelical, and even born-again, churches.

Historically, Jesus and his followers considered themselves to be Jews (Jesus preached in the Jewish Temple..the Last Supper was the Passover celebretion..etc..)
The Catholic Church came from the teachings of Peter in Rome...but even then they considered themselves a branch of Judaism for many years until Constantine converted to the Christian faith...and the Church came into power.
Until the Protestant Reformation...when other denominations branched off from the Catholic Church.
One can argue that the Baptists come from John the Baptist...or that their religion is the "Only" or "Correct" belief....but this answer is only from a historic perspective.
Consider that Jesus himself said "Whenever 2 or more of you are gathered in my name...there you shall find my church"
