Good question. You're mostly right. It is impossible to totally erase your experiences from any given debate. How can we look at ourselves objectively? My only advice is to listen to people who disagree with you.

I do agree that it is very difficult to be completely open minded about a subject on which we have already formed an opinion. It's hard to separate the preconceived notions we have been taught our entire lives and look at a topic from a different perspective. All we can do is try and be willing to try.

I really don't recall ever lynching a Muslim or threatening a Buddhist or any other religion. If you're talking about losing beliefs to benefit another belief.., thats pure ignorance. It ceases to be the original belief and becomes the other. If you think to be Free Thinkers we must become atheists - like you, then it no longer becomes free thought but controlled thought as many atheist accuse Christians. Atheists think morality has to be dropped. BUT turn around and say just because they are not religious doesn't mean they have no morals. This thought in itself is a vulture flying in circles while it tries to make up it's mind. So then another class atheist says, okay you can belief like you want (as if giving us permission to believe what we want) just do not try to proselytize. If we are to practice our beliefs which includes proselytizing then you are preventing us from practicing our religion. Another class of atheist says kill them all then we will have no more war or suffering as if the Christians that are to be slaughtered would not suffer. This form of atheist can not be trusted because sooner or later his kind will decide who else should live or die. Consider our God (true Christians) dispenses justice his own self, not us. Now if you have no belief in this God, why would anyone fear us or be too upset with us? Atheism is not the answer - just another problem the world brings on itself. Consider this is written by an adult with life experience you totally lack.

I totally agree, I am of a certain religion some people hate! People who do not know ME the Person, will hate me if I were to declare my religion.
If I were to give my religion here , there are people, all over the English speaking world who would thumbs down this answer simply for the religion not the person behind it!
YES society has taught demeaning things about my beliefs, and of many others, so folks do NOT seem to want to free them selves from bias, they seem to enjoy their own form of prejudice. So at least from a Religious angle...YES I AGREE WITH YOU!!!!

I agree with you in that everyone is biased in some way, shape, or form, but the notions don't necessarily have to be instilled upon us by society. Some are instilled from our surroundings and by our personal experience.

I think Judge Jones, the religious Bush-appointed republican judge who resided over the Dover Trial, did an excellent job of freeing himself from bias when he ruled that Intelligent Design is not science.

To be free, never look for that in religions.
Religions are man made scams, you want free, you do it inside yourself. You only have one short life to live, try to be a happy one. Be honest, integrity, giving, sharing and apply logic to things you are doing.
First of all, pay attention to details, leave no tiny items unattended. You need not be a neat freak, but you should not allow messy surroundings.
