You can find forums on tons of stuff! If you search around, you'll find them. You can even look on Yahoo. They have communities and stuff like that.

Tattoos are popular in certain circles only. It is popular in the way one can choose to express his originality or individuality, to be different from the crowd or to show what one likes/ dislikes. It is still viewed unpopular as a general rule due to stereotypes that came from the past... such as rough people or troublemakers that were often seen with tattoos. Also historically tattoos were brands for slaves, people who are incarcerated (in jail), and as a mark for gangs. Since gangs are all too often associated/ stereotyped with violence--that's what the general population viewed people as: rough, violent people.

The good news is that it is now more accepted than before, it certain areas people with tattoos are barely treated any different than people with a different hairstyle or different clothes. Being that tattoos are new to China, it might take a while before most people to accept people with tattoos and not treat them any different.

If you do choose to get a tattoo that is clearly visible to others, be prepare to be looked at strangely and even be treated differently or even looked down upon.

I would suggest getting a tattoo that is not as visible to others, in an area that will usually be covered by your normal everyday clothes. This way you'll still get your tattoo and for the most part no one will know until perhaps you take off your shirt or other clothing.

I am a 57 year old woman and I got my first at 16, my family almost disowned me-seriously. I had to cover it with a band-aid untill I moved out. As far as site, go to Myspace.com/Pulsating Paula, she is a proff. phtographer for over 20 years, does mostly tats and piercings., she also has another site there called Spacedoutphoto, there are some great ones on there too.
Try loooking for somesmall and have done in a place that is not obvious in the beginning.
I am surprised to hear you say that, here in Chinatown in NYC and San Fran., Ca. Chinese men are covered with them.
Good luck
Anna

Yeah, tattoos are pretty big here. It is different here. I'm not sure if I'm correct or not, but I heard that in China you try not to shame your ancestors by doing anything offensive. I think that's really neat. Especially for a young generation. I guess American youths are more of a "whatever" generation, plus half of us don't know where our ancestors came from. I have Scottish, Irish, French, Native American, a little bit of everything in me. If you want a tattoo, get one.
