is eating cold things like ice cream or cold drinks good when you have a sore throat or strep throat?

I have a really bad sore throat and im thinking that i have it infected (strep throat). i've heard that its good if you eat cold things to numb the soreness, but my mother has always told me not to eat cold things when you have a sore throat. who's right?

They give you ice cream in the hospital when you have your tonsils out, so I would say that you are right.
For strep, a trip to the doctor is a must. Until you can get there, you can kill almost any virus with onions and garlic!

It's really not good to have cold things when you're throat is sore. Ice cream is bad because 1. it's dairy 2. it's sugary both of which lead to mucous production and bacterial growth.

lukewarm or warm things are much better for you. If you want to numb the soreness there are chloreseptic sprays for that.

Avoid dairy and sweets. Garggle with warm salt water to clean your throat out.

Well you`ll need antibiotics to help with the infection, but in order to avoid dehydration and starvation, you`ll need something in your body. When i had a really bad sore throat once, i couldn't eat for a week. My doctor said that Gatorade was the best alternative if i couldn't eat. It contains enough nutrition and electrolytes to keep you alive if you cant eat. You will loose weight and you will be hungry, but you wont die from starvation. So, first, drink gatorade. Second, get antibiotics
