unconvinced that the Bible is of Divine origin?

2007-06-21 14:10:57 · 31 answers · asked by Anonymous in Society & Culture Religion & Spirituality

, Daniel the prophet predicted in about 538 BC (Daniel 9:24-27) that Christ would come as Israel's promised Savior and Prince 483 years after the Persian emperor would give the Jews authority to rebuild Jerusalem, which was then in ruins. This was clearly and definitely fulfilled, hundreds of years later.

There are extensive prophecies dealing with individual nations and cities and with the course of history in general, all of which have been literally fulfilled. More than 300 prophecies were fulfilled by Christ Himself at His first coming. Other prophecies deal with the spread of Christianity, as well as various false religions, and many other subjects.

Prophecies are not for unbelievers, because how can you prophesy to that one who does not believe!

There is not glitch in prophecy, otherwise there is no prophecy. The thing is humans are egocentric and do not thing that the messages are also for angels and spiritual forces.

Even in the beginning God spoke to angels and men at the same time, as in Genesis after the fall af man.

And in Revelation is even more clear with the message to the angels of the seven churches.

This tell us that some things are to be seen happening in a spiritual plane, while others in a material plane.

Everything is in opposition for example: building the temple in material world...temple destroyed...building....destroyed....Change to spiritual plane: Jesus build a spiritual temple and we enter the spiritual plane.

While it is said the two prophets are killed:
And their corpses will be at the square of the great city which, spiritually, is being called Sodom and Egypt. So the event is also spiritual.

For unbelievers of any current in time generation is as follows:
This generation wants to see signs, but not sign will be given to them, but the sign of Jonas and the whale.

So signs can not be seen by unbelievers. The same a man can not see signs of a woman's love when he does not believe in her, "Thinks she is a whore for example".

Give ONE example directly from the bible, and the corresponding historical event.

Obviously your real-life event has to be from a non-biblical source.

" Daniel the prophet predicted in about 538 BC (Daniel 9:24-27) that Christ would come as Israel's promised Savior and Prince 483 years after the Persian emperor would give the Jews authority to rebuild Jerusalem, which was then in ruins. This was clearly and definitely fulfilled, hundreds of years later."

I see. So the only source for the prophecies comes from the bible, and the fullfillment of the propheccies comes from the same book.

Do you know what circular logic is? You just tried using the bible to prove the bible! Are you completely daft?

How little effort would it take for the writers of the bible to take an original jewish prohecy, and then write the Jesus story to intentionaly fullfill that same prophecy?

Try again.

I dont know what prophesy you speak of, even though apparently there are 'hundreds' give an example please.

Most prophesies are easy to come truem like nostradamus. 'there will be a fire in the sky'...especially if people are willing to reinterpret it to be the challenger shuttle exploding. It wouldnt really be interesting unless he said 'there will be a space shuttle named challenger which will explode'. try finding a specific prophesy in the bible which came true, esp. a prophesy of somethign that did not already occur by the time the oldest surviving document appears in which it refers to be 'prophesied'

If daniel predicted accurately the exact year of the messiah's birth, then surely many jews would be expecting it, and perhaps Jesus's claims would be mroe respected. Nonsense to think the jews of the time would not have remembered such specific prophesies of one of their esteemed prophets. Seriously, nonsense. Or perhaps this has something to do with that prophesy being written long after the death of Jesus.

because if you read the bible one of the prophecys says thats what exactly would happen people will have some form of godliness and deny the spirit in that its talkin about all the merciful people who are forgiving and all that but dont believe in God it also says knowledge will increase and many will turn away from God, many will be lovers of pleasure instead of God and many heartys will turn cold because of the increse of wikidness and many scouffers will come and say where is the Lords coming for things have been as theyve always been? theirs also a prophecy spoken by daniel where he saw these fhuge flying locusts that had armor on its chest and shot fire and had the face of a man and the fiore shot down to the ground and engulfed everything to me this sounds like he saw an apache helicopter but didnt know what he was seeing so described it the best he could.

Because of gross misunderstanding and arrogance. The bible is a book of prophesies. If they can't understand it's word they will not understand it's prophesies. Even when they are as clear as day.

People love to have their own "philosophies". Man still believes he can solve his own problems this way. He's thus far failed miserably. But wait...it gets WORSE. There will be wars, famines, disease, and bad weather like never before. People will become confused, afraid, and unhappy to the point of desperation. And instead of opening their eyes and hearts they will still curse God and hate the truth.

There are those who believe science and "logic" will eventually solve the problem. These are those "by the year 2100..." types. Wishful thinking. Can you imagine what this world will be like in let alone another 50 years? It's a sad reality. But it's reality. How much more in school shootings, natural disasters, unhappiness, terrorists attacks, fear, and dog-eat-dog will people have to bring upon themselves before they realize they've done something horribly wrong?

God bless

Hmmm... which of them succeeded in a manner that grow to be verifiable exterior of the Bible itself? If verse A says "XYZ will happen" and verse A+10 says, "XYZ befell while it pronounced it would" that's no longer a demonstrably fulfilled prophecy. it relatively is a self-serving fact. Which modern-day activities would be unequivocally and inarguably related to a Biblical prophecy?

Oh yeah, like how, within some of the disciples' lifetimes, Jesus came back and rebuilt the temple and ruled New Jerusalem, just like he said he would? Oh wait, that didn't happen. And neither have hundreds of others. You need to check your Christian-published sources.

Every prediction made, if reasonable, will come true eventually. I can make many myself. Does that mean that I am a mystical prophet? Does that mean that my knowledge is divine. I predict that you will die some day. I also predict that before the 2nd coming, many will have died. I predict the Earth's temperatures will rise many degrees, and be followed by an ice age. I predict............ give it a rest. Nothing written as prophesy is mystical, just common sense, uninspired, and rather boring.

Bull.

"Prophecies" are like horoscopes. They are so vague and so open to interpretation that they can be twisted to suit any situation. Besides, you failed to include a list of prophecies.

The bible is a storybook written by men. I personally am astounded anyone is naive enough to still believe it in this day and age!

as a christian myself, i really have no idea. i guess that some people just believe what they want to believe, and some of them dont know the Bible like we do and so they dont know that the prophesies we see in the Bible have never failed, so that is why its our job to spread the love of Christ around and wittness to others about the greatness of Christ
