okay so I'm a 15, 5'0", 120lbs female trying to lose about ten pounds. Normally for breakfast I have rasin bran with soy milk and a pb&j sandwich and yogurt for lunch. Dinner is whatever the family has, but I usually pass on the meat. I'm starting to go to the local rec center and go on the eliptical for 20 minutes and at home swim in the pool and tread water for about a half an hour. I'm thinking of jogging in the evenings about 2 miles. Can somone give me some help to speed up my weight loss? thanks =]

There's no need to pass on the meat unless it's like 77/23 ground beef or something. Meat isn't inherently bad at all.

Otherwise, it kind of sounds like you aren't nearly eating enough. You need to eat more, if you don't your metabolism will just slow down and it'll be even harder to lose weight.

Also, for the most optimal fat loss, you should start some resistance training. When you go on a caloric deficit and do cardio, your body will start not only eating away at fat for energy, but at muscle too. Lifting weights will help retain your muscle mass and also increase your exercise post oxygen consumption (EPOC) both of which raise your metabolism and make fat loss easier.

And no, lifting heavy weight won't make you "too big" like so many girls think =). Unless you eat 5k calories a day and start taking steroids and lift obsessively for years, I PROMISE you won't end up like a female body builder.

It's pretty ironic that the one thing that 99% of girls avoid (weight training) is probably the one thing that will give them the body that they want. Only doing long winded cardio sessions just isn't the way to go.

find daily calorie intake calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours - it optimizes your metabolism)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have protein (lean meat, legumes etc) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min (ideally 45min because the first 20-30min body burns carbs and only then starts burning fat), light weight training (more muscle=faster metabolism)
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, pasta etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

look into a low carb diet, like south beach. My doctor supports a similar program that is guided in office and monitored at 2 weeks, 1 month, then as needed. I lost 15 pounds (left over baby weight) in 2 weeks.....it's a long term eating plan that keeps you from getting hungry. It sounds like you're doing it the right way, exercise is key. If you're avoiding meat simply because you don't like it, try whey protein shakes or other protein replacements like garden burgers and the like. Protein is essential for building muscle mass, which helps speed up your metabolism. Drink lots of water, if your body doesn't get enough, it starts to retain it, adding excess weight. my daily diet consists of egg substitute and unsweetened applesauce for breakfast (you can throw in a slice of whole wheat toast if you like) a protein shake for a snack (not premixed, too much sugar/fat) lunch is grilled chicken salad with tomato, cucumber, whatever you want, and vinegarette dressing, afternoon snack of 1/2 cup lowfat cottage cheese and an orange or turkey slices and an apple, and dinner is something like grilled steak and artichokes or pork chop with red potatoes. I like to make lots of stir fry combos too, broccoli beef, sweet and sour, chicken chow mein, etc. Just make sure to watch the salt content, that will cause water retention as well (or use sea salt). With this, I'm never hungry and rarely out of energy....oh! also important, make sure you take a multi-vitamin to get all your nutrients.
