Look if CHina wants it, it can now convert ALL her factories that make everything you can buy in Wal-Marts into weapons factory, and if they really needs it they can draft more than 120 millions soldiers!!! So the winner can only be decided if we know who attack in the first place... If its China, then they will get into a lot of troubles... If its the US, you must forget about it either... They will just outnumbered the US, like USSR has done with Germany at the WWII.
Also, Chinese weaponry is getting a very serious upgrade at this time, and they can zap most American satellite in the space... So, if the US is blinded, your ground troups will not be capable to do anything against them.
China has never really like waging war, even their "civil war" was looking like a dance in the mountains. Their foreign policy is live and let lives, so they just hate to meddle into another country internal affairs, even if they like to steal technologies, they don't consider this meddling into other countries internal affairs... So my guess, is if they are a confrontation between the two, China will either defend itself after invading Taiwan or the US will attack China for some reaons... But China will NEVER attack the US, this is for sure...

Infantry ceased to be the dominating force on the battlefield.
America would utterly crush China. The world's largest airforce though it may be, they're still two or three generations behind the F-22 itself.
They simply don't have the delivery systems to defeat us - even on their own soil, they are surrounded by nations that don't like them, that want to see a new regime put into place.
Whoever the President is, however, would have to be intelligent enough to actually utilize the CIA for more than interrogation, as Bush has been doing. They would have to understand the importance of psychological warfare and the creation of terror in your enemies.
Depending on what it's over, it would have the potential to be ugly at certain points, but China doesn't stand a chance. Between us and Japan, we could cripple China's ability to make war off of their own continent in weeks.

Is this a serious question? Anyone who does not believe the obvious answer has yet to pick up a history book. This wouldn't be much of a fight and any who would doubt the outcome need only answer one question: Just how much experience does China have in waging a modern war?*
*And that Korean nonsense does not count.

This is a difficult question because the Chinese have some very special advantages.
America has submarines with enough nuc power to make China disappear and we can deliver it. They have such power as well.
The "secret" weapon is the American media, which will always be on the side of a Communist/Socialist Country against their own.

In a nuclear era, the only true enemy is war itself. Any significant nuclear exchange, say even just five 500kilotons nukes lobbed at each other, would cause global impact winter. Chances are, there'd be more in the exchange.
In a nuclear era, size no longer matters, which is why ol Kim is wanting one, so he can sit at the conference table....

That depends on where they were to fight. China would win in China and America would win in America.
America could never beat China's 200 million reservist infantry and China simply doesn't have the technology and hardware to land its soldiers on US land.

Well within the first few days of the war about 80 million Chinese could be already incenerated from the US nuclear attack, also destroying China's nuclear capabilities. It wouldn't go much farther than that considering the idealized massive land battles just wouldn't happen, for China wouldn't have the capabilities and the US wouldn't want to.

Im not sure. They do have two 7 footers, so they can maybe medal in basketball, maybe.
Swiming and Gymnastics are too close to call. Sure the us has the edge in track and field (sprinting and long jump) but long distance, its wide open.
China might just take the medal count at the 2008 olympics.
For now i say china because they have home olympics advantage, but you never know.

There's no way we can be stopped in a symmetric war. Although they do out number us in troops, we have too far of a technological advantage. Hey, we got f-22's and b-2's, they'd get bombed back to the stone age.

The U.S. would probably. We don't really need to do infantry combat, we could just bomb them out of world affairs.
