I was just wondering when I thought about Muslims memorizing the whole Qur'an. And can you tell me why if you do/don't memorize it?

One more thing guys, I am so sorry I forgot to include this:
you guys say there's no point in memorizing the Bible (I know, I know it's big), but is there any Christian that memorizes it?

No, for an individual to commit the entire Bible to memory
is an impossibility. The first barrier would be the various versions available. Most folks can memorize parts of a particular version though.

An example:

The Bible Genesis 1:1-2 (The Message) The Message
Heaven and Earth
First this: God created the Heavens and Earth all you see, all you don't see. Earth was a soup of nothingness, a bottomless emptiness, an inky blackness. God's Spirit brooded like a bird above the watery abyss.

The Bible Genesis 1:1 - 2 ( King James Version )
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

The Bible Genesis 1:1 - 2 ( New International Version )
The Beginning
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
Now the earth was [a] formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

Congratulations to the memorizers of The Quran, that is just not possible in reference to the Bible.

Have a pleasant day.

No, I haven't memorized the entire Bible, although I can quote large chunks of it from memory after 45+ years of reading and studying it. I see no reason to memorize the whole Bible, even if I could (which is highly unlikely, as big as it is.)

I have several concordances and a good computer Bible program to locate the verses that I need. I don't think there's any point in memorizing the whole thing, as long as I can find the verses or topics I'm looking for.

No. As a Christian, the most important part about the Bible is that the reader understand the overall messages. Also, I have a couple different translations and the terminology varies slightly in each one (not enough to change the meaning of course), so I think it's better just to read and understand the text. Those who have religious vocations (priests, nuns, etc)often do memorize much of the Bible, but there is no requirement for Christians to do this.

No. I know a lot of stories from the bible from memory just through having learned at church and school, but I've never felt the need to memorise it at all.

There'd be an awful lot to memorise, especially if you think it's two sets of scriptures - the old and new testaments, and they both have very different content. The old is mainly, like most religions, a collection of myths, so that can be good for stories and the like. While the new testament is the story of Christ, and the beliefs and teachings of his followers. That's of more interest to theologians.

Personally speaking I don't memorize the Bible, No Christian has to, what's important is that they understand what they are reading... Me, I'm still learning about the bible, no one and I mean no one fully understands the Bible, we are still learning, memorizing isn't necessary but helpful when you are in a Religious and Spiritual discussion :-).

they may memorize some of the important things
like john 316 and things like that but some do and some dont
some do so they can talk to people and say this verse is here and it says.... just so that person they are talking to can verify what they are saying.
