It's rude and obnoxious. However, I don't think people always realize they're doing it.
I was watching a DVD that I have of the Monterey Pop Festival. It was showing Jimi Hendrix and I noticed that he was snapping his gum. He is a guitar god, but I think I would have had to ask even him to stop with the gum...it annoys me highly.

It's rude and obnoxious...definately.
Except my grandma can't help it sometimes when she chews her gum...it snaps because she chews so quickly, there tends to get bubbles in there and they pop when she bites down on it. It still drives me nuts though.

I think it is rude but I don't react because that makes them worse. I'm sure I do things that annoy others.

When I was in junior high,I thought that was the sexiest thing I ever saw a girl do.
Later I found girls who would do even sexier things. heh heh heh.

According to my parents it was UNTHINKABLE. However they are both gone now so I guess it is OK.
