The man's bed is in a lighthouse. He came from the party, turned off the light of the lighthouse and in the next morning, when he heard of the wrecked ship, he knew it was because he turned off the guiding light of the lighthouse that the ship had lost its way, wrecked and everyone died. Naturally, unable to bear his guilt, he commited suicide.

Because he got drunk at the party, woke up with a hangover, and while trying his best to read the newspaper didn't notice where he was going, and fell to his death from his roof, where he had fallen asleep drunk.
