This is kind of weird, but my Hispanic grandma, who makes her own tortillas, has always said there is a top and a bottom to every tortilla. She said that when the edge curls up, that's the top, and that's where you put the meat, etc. I can totally see this, but nobody else thinks it's true. Has anyone else ever heard of this? Thanks.

I've always thought there was a top and a bottom to tortillas too. They sort of cup the meat.

I have never heard that, but if your grandma told you, it must be true! :) Grandmas just know stuff ;)
And usuallly when you look at tortillas, the 2 side always look different, like the brown spots always show more on one side... I just don't know which would be the top. Now I'll have to check which side curls...

Never thought about it before but you are right. A handmade tortilla is cooked on the griddle, the first side on the griddle curls. Something new every day.

Always listen to your Grandma - she's right. You put the meat and stuff in the curled-up bit (the top).

Grandma is right. Your friends probably have just had pre-packaged tortillas which get "squished" in the plastic wrap.

Makes perfect sense to me. Your friends have probably never had a good, fresh tortilla. Poor them.

I would agree. That way the edges hold the things in. Keeps the cheese or sauce from running down the sides.
