It was a stupid argument, I was shocked he hit me. Now I feel like crap because I got him back with a couple shots. He's my little brother and means the world to me. I would do anything for that guy.
Im 25 , he's 16. So that makes me feel even worse about the situation.

I feel bad and never dreamed of ever getting in a fight with him. He did hit me first and my emotions got the best of me.
What should I have done different in that situation?

In addition to feeling remorse for your response, you should be concerned about why he felt that he was okay to physically attack you - no matter what the agrument was about. He is a little old to be throwing punches at family members - whose next, your mother? Your grandparent? You need to take a hard look at who he is spending his time with, is he involved in drugs? Is he an athlete who might be using steroids? He sounds a little troubled - it is clear you care very much for him. Make sure he's okay. If he isn't, help him.

Man, you should have taken the shot and not hit him back. You are the older brother and should know better. You should have let him know that you did not appreciate it and if he continued, you should have restrained him and showed him who was the stronger of the two. I understand where your coming from though. When I was a teenager I hit my brother a few times because he was making nasty comments about my girlfriend. I am 31 years old now and still hate that I hit him. Family needs to look out for each other and not fight with each other. It will all work itself out though. Sit him down and talk with him. An apology should be enough, or even take him out to do something that he really loves to do and apologize why you both are out. It will all be good

I understand, I come from a family of five so lots of fighting lol but it is wrong. Don't worry though, people make mistakes, say things they shouldn't and the fights build from there. Just apologize and really think about the argument. You said it was stupid, but obviously something you said really triggered your brother and made him angry---think about how next time you can choose your words more carefully and if he hits you again, grab him and tell him to calm down....I'm happy that you feel sorry for your behavior....that's a start...

Family association aside, you basically beat the s h i t out of a child. Not your finest hour....but, you already know this. You (at 25) could likely have grappled him into submission until he calmed down, or simply walked away. Even though he's your brother the law takes a dim view of assault and that would not have gone your way had someone reported you. You're an adult now, so you have to think like one. Good luck. You're brothers; it'll pass.

I mean sometime among brothers there are little fights, but was it like a real bad fight or was it like playing around. Don't feel bad, if it was playing around, or did you really hurt him in a way that left him bruises, then that's kind of bad, talk to him about this and tell him that you're sorry and how you felt and how you feel now. By the way why did you put this in singles and dating?

From a third party view it seems you taught him a very valuable lesson. Don't ever throw a punch without Expecting Two coming back at him.

But you failed to show him strength and love that an older brother should have for his sibling.
My only sister is 7 &1/2 years older She taught me alot of harsh realities but now i am a very stable 23 year old female.I still tell her how she was tuff but I needed It. xo
