I don't think religion is an issue. We're not getting married in a church. Our rabbi will marry us. Our Sabbath ends Saturday night. We live in NJ, so it's not an issue of rules. Our liquor stores are open Sunday.

It really depends how deeply religious the majority of your guests are. I personally have no problem with having a glass of wine in the afternoon -- regardless of the day. But there are those who might find it questionable. For those, perhaps offering non-alcoholic beverages would be better.

We had a morning wedding and just a cocktail reception afterwards, it was wine and champagne, with butlered hors'deurves and a cheese and fruit table. Then we had cake and butlered pastries. You wont want it to be that long. Our wedding was at 11:30 and the reception was from 12:30-3.
Also, it can be a formal event, ours was formal, it was not at all casual, we were married in NYC, so that probably helped with the formality level. But I dont think it is weird to do a cocktail reception at all. And a Sunday wouldnt make a lick of difference either.

Go for it!

No Way! I love the idea. My dream was to have a Sunday Brunch wedding. Have the ceremony around 11 (leaves time for you to get your hair done. It may be difficult to find an open salon on a Sunday though) and then the reception right after. I was going to do breakfast type foods, fruit, danishes, things like that. For drinks it was all about Bloody Mary's and Mimosas. You may also find that most vendors will give you a large discount for daytime and Friday and Sunday weddings. Plus if you don't have to spend money on a DJ if you don't want. I would definitely check into it! If my mom hadn't nixed the idea for my own wedding I would have done it.

Um, for me yes. Little awkward getting out of church and knocking back a couple. In fact you'd be pretty screwed in GA because you can't buy or sell liqour on a Sunday and that includes parties so you would have to have a dry reception.

Better check on the rules and regulations in your state before doing something like that. Nothing is a bigger party foul than having the cops come bust up your wedding.

We're doing it for our wedding! I've also been to a number of Sunday weddings, and all had a cocktail hour. No one had problems with it.

A cocktail reception on Sunday sounds perfect. Can I come? :)

Some people will not drink on Sunday for religious reasons. I would have it on a Saturday instead.

I think that it is fine. Why not? there are no rules for weddings.
