get an empty soda can and put pennies in it, anytime she barks shake the can at her, eventually when she sees you grab the can she will stop and u wont have to even shake it, and then eventually she will know that when seh barks she hears that really irritating sound, dogs ears are very sensitive. this works like a charm, do not give her treats or try to buy your dogs friendship with your friends, if she is barking at them and they give her a treat, she will take it as if i bark i get a treat to shut up, worst thing u can do. Also dont yell at the dog, they will take you yelling as u being intimidated by this person coming into your home, natural instict is to protect and alert you of intruders

Make sure the dog is socialized by taking her to Petsmart and allowing her to walk around getting petted by people. When people come over have them give her yummy treats. Teach her tricks and have the people have her do them. She should know at least sit and down. Do NOT pet her while she is barking as that teaches the dog that what she is doing is good. With some dogs putting them in another room b4 the people come in works well then when the people are seated let the dog out, scatter treats on the floor and have people toss or give her treats. Have her associate guests with an esp. yummy treat.

Watche "The Dog Whisperer" on the National Geographic channel. That will answer your question. Basically you will find out how to control your dog and have a very well behaved little friend.

Chihuahuas are very protective. Are your friends loud when they come over, do they do anything that might be placing her on guard? Try holding her while your friends are there and reassure her that they mean no harm. Eventually she will understand they are friends and let them be.

Train it. Do you know how? If not then enroll in a good dog obedience class. They will teach you about dog behavior and how to teach your dog. You will then know how easy it is to teach a dog the "quiet" command.

Discipline her! She needs to know you are the boss. Make her stop and every time she starts barking...discipline her. I know its hard but you must be firm.
