My situation: I gamble way too much. I just left a Manager Level Corporate Job to become a consultant. On my new job I'll have to travel to client sites each week and back to my state of residence. Because I have gambled away all of my cash and credit (literally down to $11 cash i have left) I'm sort of stuck. I have no family that I can go to and it's too embarrassing to ask friends although I'm not sure they could help either. What I really need to know is how to ask my new employer to cover my travel expenses for me without revealing my personal situation... Please offer answers on that only. I don't need to be beaten up over letting myself get into this situation.

Honestly might loose you the job but being caught in a lie will for sure so be vague but honest. Tell the employer you hit a finacial setback and are having a problem with your credit card so will need to have the company put your airfare and hotel on their credit for the next couple of weeks. If they ask what happened tell them you would rather not talk about it, but don't lie.
If you have assets try selling them to repay your debts and get some working capital.

If you are working as an employee, it's not unreasonable to ask your employer to purchase the airline tickets, and reserve a rental car in their name, and to give you an advance for other expected expenses like hotels and meals. You don't have to say why. It's a perfectly fair request.
If you were working as an independent consultant, then the answer would be different - there, it's standard that the consultant covers expenses and then bills the client.

Just let him know you are having some financial difficulties and ask if you can get a travel advance. You'll have to submit expense reports with receipts, but you must have to do that anyway. Be honest if he agrees, do not ever use his money for gambling opportunities.
