Salams sister!
I´m originally from London, Ont, just across the border from you!
I´m not ashamed to wear it. But I will be honest and say that I am not immune to the stares I get, mostly in summer (when everyone else is wearing as little as possible, or less). I work against this by wearing summer clothes which I like and make me feel good about myself (obviously ones that cover, but with nice fabrics and styles). The self-confidence shines out much more, and the stares are less. I also avoid beaches (we live in a touristy lakeside town)or parks where the general public goes on hot days and strips off. Then I really stick out. I don´t mean I hide away, I just don´t go there because not only do I feel uncomfortable (the looks), also, it´s not good for me as a Muslim (or my kids) to see everyone lying around half, or completely (here in Europe) naked.
If one feels ashamed occasionally about the hijab, one should try pinpointing what exactly the real problem might be. Low self-confidence? Clothes that make you feel uncomfortable? Snobbish co-workers? then try to fix the problem, or at least be aware of it, and stay strong!!

I am inshaAllah planning on wearing it very soon. May Allah (swt) bless all those Muslim women who wear the beautiful hijab only for the sake of Allah (swt), and who are not ashamed. No one should ever be ashamed, because that is not at all the point of the hijab. God knows best.

There must be some, but I'm sure not. I live in Christianfundamentalistsburg Virginia, USA, and I wear my hijab proudly, even though I am the only Muslim I know.

Assalamualaykum. I am Ohio USA and I'm not ashamed to wear the hijab. I'm just embarrassed to go outside with my hair covered even though I know it's for ALLAH(SWT) and that I will be rewarded for wearing it in the next life Insha ALLAH because people stare at me all the time and say things behind my back. I know I should be strong and I am it's just that I don't like people staring at me and I feel sometimes like an idiot(Rabbi eghifir lee wa rahamnee) because I am really shy and get my feelings hurt very easily. I expect to get a lot more stares when I buy my overhead Abaya, and niqab and the other things I plan on getting once I get my paycheck in September and start wearing those as well. May ALLAH(SWT) guide us all to Jinnah and may we all stay on the straight path and get our reward in Jinnah Insha ALLAH. Ameen. ALLAH U AKBAR! ALLAH HAFIAZ!!!

Assalaamu Alaikum why would any woman be ashamed of wearing the hijab - self conscious maybe. We just have to remember why we wear it and who we wear it for.

I think the problem is that some people see this a weakness in the woman. The crazy thing is that some of these women suffer abuse, which is just not right to abuse any woman.
They may be aware of this but they should know that the will be rewarded for the patience that they show in this matter.

I'm in NY sister and from all the interactions I have with other Muslima's none of them are ashamed to wear it. Those who don't wear it usually say they are not ready for the responsibility and don't want to be hypocrites. Many others say that they don't want to wear it for others, or because their parents have told them to but will only wear it for the sake of Allah when their heart is content.

thanks to Allah, never ashamed but always proud of my Hijab........... we are the queens and the(hijab) are the crowns on our head.
Islam regards women as beautiful peaceful smart minds, not beautiful sexual objects.
FOOLS don't realize this reality.
