It depends on when you want to get there? If you want to be in the park at opening you need to plan to get there by 7:30am. This is when the parking structure opens up and will give you 30 minutes to get parked, take the tram to the entrance and get your tickets. This is usually plenty of time so you should be in line for the entrance at the 8am opening.

Monterey Park is only about 30 miles from Disneyland, but any way you take during the morning rush hour can be a pain. So you should plan to leave about 6am to get there by about 7:30am. If you don't care when you get there, you probably should avoid the worst of the rush hour and plan to leave after about 9 or 10am. That will get you there in about 45-60 minutes.

Traffic on southbound 710 and I5 should be easier after 9:30am. I've not had any trouble with those freeways after 10am.

And for those of you who don't know, he's in Monterey PARK; it's a suburb east of Los Angeles. Recommending a departure time of 6:30am is a surefire way to get him stuck in mad rush hour traffic.

And while it's nice to beat crowds, I used to go to Disneyland regularly on weekdays (graduate students have flexible schedules). A Friday, even in summer, isn't a huge deal as long as you can get your family to cooperate and operate efficiently.

It has been a long time since I lived in CA but from what I remember, June is summer vacation and Friday morning it will be packed.

It is about 348 miles from Monteray to Anaheim so at 75 mph so it will take you 4 1/2 to 5 hours. You want to get to the park before they open at 9 am in order to find decent parking and to be able to enjoy a whole day's worth of fun.

So with that said (I'm sure you already knew all this) I would leave no later than 4 am.

Best to leave early.
It's better to sit in a parking spot that is closer to the entrance than to sit in traffic waiting to move.
