I have a splitter on my phone jack, 1 for the phone and 1 for the DSL modem. I have never had a problem using my phone until recently. Now, my phone will ring, but when I answer it.........I hear nothing! I have no dial tone at all, but it will ring when someone calls me.
What could this be?
Thanks,
Ed

Do you have dial tone and can you call out and talk? If not, remove the splitter and connect the phone directly into the wall outlet (eliminate the splitter and DSL filter) and see if you can call and talk. If so your splitter is faulty; if you cannot call and talk there is something wrong with your phone circuit and you should then follow the phone check out proceedure of your phone company at the demark and call them if the demark test shows the problem is on the carrier side of of your demark. The demark is the separation between the phone company equipment and the owner's equipment.
