Since I moved to the US 7 months ago I noticed how hard it is to skip High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS)
Read the link and judge for yourself, what do you think you should do?
I only buy organic.
It's from an AARP magazine.

Yes,I have to,since alot of products contain hidden animal ingredients.I usually don't buy processed foods, unless it says vegan on the package.Alot of vegan products don't contain stuff like high-fructose corn syrup or aspartame, they usually make it all natural and mostly oganic.

My husband brought that to my attention about the corn syrup! Oh now I check everything! Even bread has corn syrup in it.

I have cleaned up our food and the ingredients IN the food so much! I had already begun - however he pointed things out that aren't acceptable elsewhere but are here. My kids love it and are so food conscious now!

Good thing I already had a head start in this after working in product development for a natural gourmet food company.

I know Whole Foods can be expensive - but there is Trader Joe's and now Safeway (which delivers for about $5 BTW) offer many less expensive alternatives to the regular stuff we are used to eating.....

I didn't not read the link, but I agree that high fructose corn syrup is a serious problem. It raises blood sugar quickly, which means it can fall quickly, stimulating hunger. (high glycemic index) IT's also about 6 times cheaper to use than real sugar. Whenever I find a soda flavored w/ real sugar, I swoon. It's so much better than HFCS!!!

I started reading labels when I was pregnant (32 years ago) and was told to watch out for salt. Then I discovered I was lactose-intolerant and had to look out for hidden milk products, which are tucked into many products you wouldn't think would have them.

As far as high-fructose corn sweetener, I have a friend whose daughter is highly allergic to corn products. If you are looking for mixes without it, or sodas with real sugar, every Spring look for Kosher for Passover products. You cannot eat corn during passover, so everything is sweetened with sugar. No cornstarch either.

Every year I buy a bunch of coke made with sugar. Heaven!

Yes I read labels and you will find that in about 95% of all foods here because it is cheap and a preservative. Check for a Wild Oats or Natural Foods store near you. Also check with local health food stores and get to know the clerks-they will help you.

i look for more than just Fruc. corn syrup...& organic isnt all that it's claimed to be. Just to get more money out of people & what i found out it's harmful to the environment cause it uses more land to produce. & AARP is fooling yall too

Try to cook from scratch...it's the only way to avoid all the corn syrup and preservatives.

Yes! I try to miss E-numbers and anything that is Hydrogenated-especially oils! This is in the U.K. I also try to avoid modified ingrediants as well. Especially corn.
I give Mars their due, they removed hydrogenated oils from their candy bars. Well done to them.
