depends. They tend to be a bit aggressive and may get jelous of the kids but my uncle had an older one and he loved the kids even though they pulled his tail and such. If the kids are young, sometimes it is best to get a larger dog because they cannot be hurt by the children. Little dogs may snap at them and bite

Just like with any breed it really depends on how you well you raise, train and socialize the dog. I have seen a few Yorkies that are wonderful with children, but MOST that I have seen didnt really like children. For the most part they tend to do better with older children, but again, if you properly raise, train and socialize the dog it should do okay with children. This website might be helpful... http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/children.htm Click on the link, read what the numbers mean and then scroll down to Yorkshire Terrier. You can also click on the Yorkie link and it will tell you all about the breed. Hope this helped some!! Good luck!! : )

I've seen some Yorkies who are good with kids and some who aren't. How the dog acts around kids depends just as much on the kids as on the dog. Unfortunately, young children can easily frighten or injure a small dog without meaning to. When this happens, the dog usually defends himself by biting. Little kids are often loud and rambunctious, and they can move suddenly and irratically - all behaviors that can frighten a little dog. The kids have to be taught how to interact with a dog appropriately. If the dog ever does get hurt or frightened by a young child, chances are pretty good that the dog will learn to be afraid of all children. As a result, you could end up with a dog that has fear-aggression. not good.
If your kids are a little older - maybe 10 years old or so - then a yorkie would be a fine pet for your family.

Yorkie's are very spirited, rambunces, tough, cute little things that can be very patient with young children-
HOWEVER, it is not safe for the Yorkie to be around little children! The rescue that I got my Yorkie from would not even adopt out to families with children under the age of 10 ( a common rule for small breeds).
This is because the dogs themselves are so very small, mine was only a fragile 1 1/2 lbs when we brought him home at 12 weeks and now only tops out at 4 pounds at almost a year old!
Although he thinks that he is 10 times bigger than he actually is, this is what can really lead to trouble for such a small breed!
Even the kindest child likes to wrestle around and run with other kids. Trips, falls and accidents are common and a Yorkie, joining in on all of the fun, is very likely to be hurt and possibly killed. Turning your family pet experience into a negative.
I know that people often think a small dog is a good idea for a small child it can often be a sad combination- a sturdy beagle may be a better choice! Good luck!

generally they are not. it is not because they are vicious or even because of the nippy factor(though that does play into it). they are simply too small and are easily injured by children's antics. consider a slightly larger hardier breed.
