I was buying books for school on my credit card, and I went about $50 over my credit card limit (which is about $500). My mom says that going over my limit is going to hurt her credit score. Is this true?

If your mom co-signed with you or her name is anyway related to the credit card account, her credit score is effected just as much as yours is.

Only if she cosigned for the card... Since your limit is $500, I'm gong to assume it's your card. Sounds like your mom was trying to teach you a lesson in credit rating by giving you the ol' guilt routine.

no matter if reporting this credit account would actually help or prevent your credit profile relies upon on the finished volume of debt on the cardboard, and no matter in case your mom has continuously made her funds on time, and so on. once you're a joint cardholder, the price historic previous on the account applies for both cardholders, and all debt comments as one. So, in case you owe $4,000 on the cardboard, yet mom owes $13,000, it gained't count number. the finished volume of the debt will ensue on your credit document. same is going with the funds -- if the price historic previous is sweet, then you definately'd be ok.

If you're just an authorized user on her card, consistently going over the limit will damage her score. Going over once won't kill the score, but it won't be good for it.

If the card is soley in your name, it won't affect her score - just yours.

Yes, if she is connected to your credit card. It is not good to go over they charge penalties also.
