So my girlfriend is going to Mexico and offered to bring me back some sort of Mexican alcohol. I am a beer drinker, but I don't think beer would be good for the transport process, so I am thinking liquors. Anyone have any good suggestions? Obviously I would like something I can't buy here in the States. And I'm not really a tequila drinker, either.

Well, then maybe you should thank her for the offer but gracefully decline by saying that she can pay for drinks when she gets back and tells you how the trip went.

If you are not a tequila drinker, don't go for mescal, bacanora or almendrado. These are all produced from agave and the taste will be similar, others like charanda or aguardiente are of poor quality. If you like liqueurs, you might want to try Kalhua or Licor de Damiana (this last is purported to be aphrodisiac). But it's a good advise that of not burdening your girlfriend with extra weight. Maybe some leather goods or silver will be better, less expensive and not heavy.

Petron Tequila. It's the best tequila on the market and it's delicious. If you're feeling brave, Mesqual is good....just don't eat the worm!

There are hundreds of local tequilas that don't make it into the U.S. Most of them are ****, but if she's at a resort or something with heavy tourism and she sees and hears about a particular brand, it'll be great. They tout the good stuff.

Most anythng Mexican is indeed available here. Let her off the hook: tell her not to weigh herself down carrying you back anything, and enjoy herself.

MAYBE a bottle of Mexican vanilla, but only if you like to cook/bake.
