When I was dieting I was supposed to eat a supplement for supper and I switched my diet around to suit my life. Weightloss has to be something long term or else you just yoyo anyway. If your diet doesn't work with your life modify the diet. Eat with you family just eat smaller portions of the healthiest thing that they serve. Make up for those few extra calories by working out the next day or a nice long walk after dinner.

be blunt with them.... In a quiet moment, tell them "I'm on a low calorie diet and the food you're eating is excellent but high in calories... I need to make my own dinners." If you just make excuses, they'll see through that, so up front is where it's at with this situation. You'll never hear the end of it if you don't say something and show up at the table.

not eating isn't the solution either. starving your body will only result in a smaller you with the exact same problem areas. only through consuming enough of the right foods will the body composition change and a decrease in body fat will be seen

You could tell the truth and say,"Oh sorry I would love to but maybe some other time because I am on a diet and thank you for you offer."

you shouldn't hide that from your family, because for one thing, it just isn't right and sooner or later they'll find out anyway, and two, if there's not anyone to stop you, you might go overboard and not eat enough. just bring your healthy food with you to dinner, and maybe suggest that they change their diets too.

Just tell them that you want to be a healthy person and not eat those high caloric foods. They will understand.
