An apple a day keeps the doctor away
Apple in the morning - Doctor's warning
Roast apple at night - starves the doctor outright
Eat an apple going to bed - knock the doctor on the head
Three each day, seven days a week - ruddy apple, ruddy cheek

Origins and history of the nursery rhyme
The simple history or meaning behind the words of this nursery rhyme lyrics is one to encourage the child or even baby of the family to eat healthily! Although perhaps 'Doctor' should be replaced with 'Dentist' in this modern day and age

The expression - an apple a day keeps the doctor away - is meant to get one point across: that apples are nutritious. This snappy phrase helps us remember that apples are nutritious.

As for the Bible, I've looked up the relevant passages in four different versions (Douay-Rheims, RSV-CE, NAB, and KJV) and none of them actually say "apple". It simply says forbidden "fruit". There is nothing that indicates that the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil was an apple tree.

Popular culture, aided artists' renderings of said event have used an apple tree as a stand-in for Forbidden Fruit Tree.

It's not necessarily important what kind of physical fruit this tree grew. "Fruit" as it is used in the context of Adam and Eve is a metaphore for spiritual fruit. That is why the Bible refers to this tree as the Tree of knowledge of Good and Evil.

Mankind's downfall was because Adam and Eve ate from the Tree of Knowledge, not an apple. It is not defined in the Bible that it was an apple.

The culprit was the serpent/Satan. An apple a day refers to the recommendation that we have several servings of fruit a day to be healthy.

Well first of all there's no mention of a "apple" in the Adam/Eve story in Genesis. But in fact they were allowed fruits, but just not the fruit of that one tree. (Who knows what the fruit was)

Secondly the phrase has legitimate medical reason, namely that apples contain alot of fiber that allows the digestive system to work more effeciently.

The "forbidden fruit" in the Garden of Eden was not an apple.

The forbidden fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil are those acts we do once we know evil.

I'm not sure we suffer from a downfall.
One of the perfect things about life,
is that it's not perfect.
