An online interview said - the creator was discussing the many reasons he left the show at the end of the first season - apparently the producers thought that it might be bad for the show to have an actress, who accidently killed a child in a car crash, playing a reaper. The creator of the show (name escapes me) fought hard for her, but in the end the producers got their way. The idea was to bring her back for an episode or two in the second season, but that never happened.

I believe she had a better offer that turned out to be a bust. I miss Dead Like Me...good show.
