I will be going abroad to my home country soon for a vacation. I would like to get back some nice gifts for some of my co-workers and my boss. Is it best to ask them what they'd like, or just make the best choice and gift it to them?

to give a gift that you put some thought and effort into is usually the most valued, no matter what it is.
so give some thought to the attitudes and apparent choices that your coworkers and boss have displayed and find a small gift for each that goes well with what you have seen. the thought behind the gift is much more important than the actual gift.

If I were you I'll just get a few packets of local food from your home country and just put it out for everyone to eat..You can give one packet/box to your box. If you are however going to buy gift for each co workers it might cost you more. Have fun back home!

Don't ask them. Get them the least expensive souvenir gifts from your country. Keychains would be good.
