time as a child ? What did you used to play, when computers were not so easy to have , or DVD players to watch movies ??? Have you pass on to your kids some of this outside games, because most fun games were to play putside!!! I like hide & seek , water ballons, rope, drawing with chalks on the porch etc.. My kids loves to play outside and ofcourse they use computers & watch TV but they like more to play out and I love to play with them .... How do you encourage them to play what you used to play when you were a kid ??

I play with them and show them how it's done! My kids love to be outside. As a child my brothers and i were outside constantly. I used to pretend I was a horse and made jumps from various things in the yard (my mom taught me how) and now my daughter, who loves horses, does this as well. I teach them games I played, like freeze tag and such, and they LOVE it. It's good exercise for me too.

My husband is also very active and he will play ball with them outside or kick a soccer ball with them. I think it's important. My kids get bored with TV and computers now and just want to play outside and ride bikes or swing. Parents need to set the example and play with their kids.

We moved around alot while I was growing up. MY favorite times were in the 5th grade in CO. Just something about the air there. We had a small creek (18 inches wide, 6 inches deep) behind our house. After a rain, I would make a paper sailboat and watch it go "down the river" and make mud pies. Wow..that was....35 yrs ago?? wow..lol..I loved being alone, too, as I am the oldest of 5 kids. I have 4 kids now and they do water balloons in the summer, sprinkler play, some DVD viewing , but mostly play outside. When I was a kid, tons of chilren played on the block..now a very few. Too many electronic devices. Have young girls? We go to the thrift store and find outrageous clothing and the neighbor girl comes over for dress up. They put on a fashion show for me.

i LOVED water balloons as a kid. I loved making them and throwing them at people and playing catch with them in the pool. I bought them one day at the dollar store and thought my boys would like them. Now we have BAGS of them in the pool shed and thats all they play with outside. Then could spend hours filling them up, putting them in buckets and running around the back yard throwing them at each other.
I also remember washing my dads car with him and having a blast. That's not really an our door "game" but I do it often with my boys and they enjoy it.
My best memory was playing ditch (hide and seek in the evening) with all the kids in the neighborhood. We'd hide under peoples decks and behind peoples cars, spread out among 5-6 houses. Never, in a million years, would i let my boys do that now.
Best wishes =]

We used to play a lot of sports when I was a kid. In the summer we would play baseball in the street for hours or in the winter go play football in the snow.

I miss playing tag in my old neighborhood. I miss asking kids if they wanted ABC gum, riding our bikes to the park, Getting in trouble for things we werent supposed to do, and never figuring out that the reason we got caught was because the neighbor's mom was looking out the window.
Of course, that was twenty years ago and it was safe to let your kids go out for 3 hours. I really dont know what Ill do when my own kids hit that age. I just dont know.

I loved the freedom. I can't give my son a childhood like mine, where I was free to ride my bike anywhere I wanted all day and play hide and seek all over the neighborhood. Too many cars, too many pedophiles, too much danger.

I encourage her by playing with her. Or we take her to the park and go down the slide or play on the swings, or even take a ball and play soccer. I paint with her and draw with her.
