My parents faced the same situation when I was younger. Heck I was over 200 in 6th grade and over 300 in 7th grade. I started high school at 350 and finished over 450. They let me eat and become very fat because they could tell I was very happy and wanted to be that way. That could be the case with your son. I wasn't lazy I just ate a lot and liked to be fat. I was the big kid in school who waddled down the hall and could not fit in those chairs. I lost much of the weight in college, then it yoyoed for several years. I was low 10 years ago but let it go to 275 and stayed there for 5 years. I realized two years ago I was happiest when I was very large (just like high school) and I have put on 100 and at 375. I am 50 now, healthy and have a very large waist - 60 inches plus. My goal is at least 500. As long as I am happy, that is what I want.

The ideal weight for that height is approximately from 150 to 185 pounds...What he needs to do is stop eating all unhealthy products such as Sugar, potatoe chips and anything that has saturated and unsaturated fat. at breakfast he should eat not too much but definitely something that contain fibers and proteins. Eat portions of whole grains, lots of vegetables if possible (rice, beans, broccoli) at lunch, also replace turkey for chicken and It's necessary to have at least 1 hour of physical activity everyday in order to lose weight. and the most Important and critical part of the day is the night, he should be eat nothing at all but light things such as a cup of 2% or fat free milk, a bowl of cereal, a 100% whole wheat bagel with a glass of orange juice...For those times when he gets hungry, he should be eating fruits or light snacks....this is only a quick way to help you get an idea on how to get and keep in shape.....for more information and help for your son you might wanna visit men's health online, they have the best ways to get you to a healthy level. Good luck.

My nephew was a 280(might have been more) pound high school football player. We told him if he wanted to play college ball he was going to have to be faster. He started walking, moved on to trotting and running, then weight lifting. He was Allstate in weightlifting and defensive guard. He lost 60 pounds and is now playing college ball. He wanted it badly and his solution is simple, just eat less calories that you burn. You want to eat, you must exercise. You must eat properly and eat the right proportions. No pigging out. And he does and he is gorgeous. He got if off pretty quick but he cut his calories a bit more than I would have liked. For him sports was the answer. He had a couple of great coaches that taught so much more than sports. He made so many friends, learned how to work in a group, sportsmanship and became quite a leader, and so much more. People talk of cutting high school sports. That ridiculous. It offers so much to the students.

At 6' tall in the neighborhood of 200lbs would be about right for him, as far as exercising goes, why don't you get involved and lift weights, jog and do some dieting with him, whether you need it or not, this will give you both some quality time together and show him that you are more then just talk.

I think you should seriously encourage your son to lead a more active lifestyle. At 16 he is probably still growing(although too much fat can adversely affect his growth), also i would recommend that he do a lot of cardio and not necessarily heavy lifting(he can break his growth plates). I strongly suggest that you talk to your doctor about his problem. Although you seem to think that he has the shape(not exactly sure what that means) I dont think that is the case. I myself am about 6ft - 160lbs and your son is much "bigger". Hope the links I give you help

all you need to do is hit the gym,,,get a low carb diet and get lean...you dont need to be skinny to look good. its so easy to see weight loss just by dieting right and running or treadmill for atleast 300 calories which is equivilent to tredmill/23-31mins bycycle=22-25mins....look i do this every day. You should be able to burn 10 calories per minute,.. just take it slow
wakeup- eat a bowl of special K serial.
snake at around 10 apple, granola,
lunch12- eat a salad and a sandwhich. make sure its a salad with something, tuna, chicken
snake a banana or sometype of carbs(good Carbs)
after work-home nice lean dinner( turkey breast, veggies, patatoes, salad)
then after this maybe a small fruit.
eat as much wheat bread as you like with your meals, i usualy eat 1-2 slices....
AS YOU SEE I EAT ALOT BUT IT BALANCES OUT...I GO TO THE GYM EVERY NIGHT AROUND 8 AND WORK OUT FOR 1HR. THATS ALL YOU NEED. AND THROUOUT THE DAY ALL I DRINK IS WATER,...NO SODA, JUICE, MAINLY WATER, OH AND THE MILK FOR BREAKFAST.... AVOID SUGAR SNACKS, TREATS,
BUT ITS OK TO CHEAT 1 TIME EVERY 2 WEEKS. MAYBE A BIG MAC,. NOT EVERYDAY THOUGH
i lost about 30 pounds this yr and thats eating kinda bad....but so far ive lost a total of 75 pounds...i used to be 295 in highskool....email me if you need more help or info...hang in youll get the weight youd like to be,.,,,it also takes to long walks after each meal since you have the time....get your metabolism working again like it should,
