Whether or not you are are actually affiliated with a church or practicing in that sense - how many persons who accept the divinity of Christ but reject the Old Testament? I'm asking for any; I don't need people telling me "then they wouldn't be a Christian". I already know that's the doctrine. i just want to know if anyone on r&s accepts the NT but not the OT.

As a Catholic I'm obligated to support the official line but personally I would not mind seeing it sundered from our Christian scripture. I've always disliked it and I must confess I don't honestly consider it divinely inspired. Most of it is so awful you can't help but think of it as downright evil. Basically,I have no use for it. Christ's teachings and those of the Apostles are enough for me. Besides,it contradicts the NT right and left.

I have argued since I was 13 that the so-called Old Testament - the hebrew "bible",really - is a horrifying piece of literature and a ghastly influence on Christians and Christianity. I know many people (I am a practicing Catholic) who utterly repudiate it,but we don't form groups or leave our respective denominations. We simply don't attach any validity to anything other than the Christian scripture. We quietly go our way. Most of the mainstream Protestants I've known tell me they rarely if ever read the OT. Personallly,I think it's evil. And I don't think this "jeohovah" is the Supreme Being or had anything to do with Christ; Christ is the Son of God,not a mythological jewish tribal god based on a volcano. The trend throughout the 20th century was less emphasis on the OT. All of it's teaching are in complete conflict with the teachings of Christ. Don't let the fact that there has been no doctrinal change fool you. Most Christians closed the book on the jewish stuff long ago. Irregardless of official doctrine.

I agree, many do make excuses about all different kinds of matters and twist the Word to make it fitting for them...fear of God, blaspheming against the Holy Spirit, and speaking in tongues, to name a few. And those are in the New Testament too. As far as the Old Testament...many believe that God has changed since then. But that's wrong...all that's changed is that Jesus came in the NT, telling us to not be bound by the laws of the OT, but simply love God and be afraid of Him. When Jesus died and rose again, The Holy Spirit came upon those who believed in Him as Lord and the same goes today as well. All who believe on Him and follow His commands are saved. So, anyone who rejects either the OT or the NT cannot be saved because they are rejecting God Himself.

I think there is a group that calls themselves the "Church of Christ" that believes in the OT only as history; they only go by the NT for doctrine.

This is what Jesus had to say about the OT.. There were the only scriptures available at the time... Jim
John 5:39
Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.

How can we deny the OT if they testify of our Lord? Doesn't make sense,,, Jim

There have been people who have done that throughout church history. I personally accept both, but I believe Marcion was among the first to reject the Old Testament because it revealed an overly ungracious God.

2 tim 3:16 "All Scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be fully competent, completely equipped for every good work"

THis scriptures says "ALL" not the NT only or the OT only. you cant read a book and only read the end part or a book and read the beginning only!!

so as a christian i READ all scriptures because they are ALL beneficial,

If you're a Christian you must believe that Jesus fullfilled the Old Testament. " the old testament is the new testament concealed, and the new testament is the new testament revealed" God bless.

You are referring to Gnostic Christianity, I believe, because they are probably the only ones who would fit your criteria.
