YES! My mom did it and even replied to it. We weren't very close to begin with, nor was I doing drugs/drinking.
She ruined my sole sense of having any pure privacy. I couldnt write anything down that I needed to because i was afraid she'd find it.
The thing I wrote about was how mine and her relationship was so bad and how much I hated it.
I needed to get it out,otherwise living with her would have gotten worse.
Then when I read what she wrote....which meant that she read what I wrote. I felt so violated.
She also read my online journal...which is more understandable because it's public, but still pretty iffy.
Its been 5 years and thinking back on it, it still bothers me.
If I had been doing drugs or hanging out with people that were obviously bad I would look back and be thankful....but that wasn't the case.
It depends on your reasoning.
Realize that teenagers WILL be crazy...they're all nuts. I was we all were....that time if life itself is nuts. Unless you have a VERY very good reason, do NOT do it.

Yes, that's a terrible thing to do. Kids keep diaries for a reason and that's so that they can confide in something even if it's only a spiral notebook. Diaries are supposed to be private and just because she doesn't share everything with you doesn't mean she's hiding anything. I think it's a horrendous display of disrespect. Would you want her going through your things? I'm sure most adults have bigger things to hide then you're average adolescent. Let her have her privacy, it's her right.

Yes, becaused the daughter her own privacy. If she is a teen, her diary is the only way she can share things in private, without letting anybody else know. I think the mother wouldn't like it if the daughter was watching her private buisness.
A diary is a place where a girl can express herself without no one knowing her feelings

Yes, unless there's very good reason to believe her daughter is on drugs or something. A diary is private - reading it is like if she walked in on you having sex with the mailman - utterly embarassing and painful for both of you.

Man.. My ma would read every little piece of paper in my room when I was younger and did it get me so angry. I write, ALOT and I read too, but the more I wrote and didn't talk as much my ma would try to be a detective and find things out. A girl keeps a diary for a reason, it is her place to get away, to not be judged or criticized about what she says or puts in it. I think that you should tell your ma to respect that. If you wanted her to know something you would tell her. Trying to find it out will only want you to push her away from you and BAM your ma is the bad guy. You keep it to get away from the outside world. Reassure her you don't have nothing to hide it is just a place for you to get away... but HIDE IT!

YES. It's a total invasion of her privacy, and you're basically telling her that your don't trust or respect her. She is entitled to her private thoughts, just as you are.
Unless you have reason to believe she is in immediate danger of committing a crime or causing physical harm to herself, leave the diary alone.

That depends on the level of trust the mother has for her daughter. A parent needs to use any means they can to protect a child who has shown they can not be trusted and who they believe is doing something that is wrong.

YES MOTHERS SHOULD NOT GO THREW THERE DAUGHTERS DIARY UNLESS THEY HAVE SUSPPENSIONS ABOUT THRERE CHILD DOING SOMETHING THEN THEY HAVE THE RIGHT 2 LOOK THREW AND SEE WHATS GOING ON BECAUSE THERE CHILD WOULDNT TELL THEM ANY THING SO NOW THEY HAVE 2 SNOOP IF GIRLS THESE REALLY TOLD THERE MOTHERS HALF THE THINGS THAT WAS GOING ON WITH THEM I DNT BELIVE THAT THERE MOTHERS WOULD SNOOP

OF COURSE!!! My parents have read my diary twice! What happened to privacy? There was nothing in my life that concerned them to even read it!
If you are a mother...the quickest way for your daughter to hate you is basically read her diary.
If you are the daugher...i know how you feel!!!

Yes I think that it is wrong because that is like the only real privacy a girl has. It is personal!! My mom used to do it until I told her how I felt!! Now she has stoped!!!!
