I just bought a Hitachi plasma tv that was on sale because it was the display model, it came as is with no remote, so i oorded one from their company. When i got it i tried it on the tv but it doesnt work. Does it need some programing? Its the same brand "Hitachi" it just doesnt do anything. What do i do?

we bought two remotes and they each came with batteries in a seperate package, we tried lots of different batteries and it still didnt work...neither remotes worked the remotes didnt come with a manual so i cant check to see if u could program it but we did buy a universal remote so i might try doin that and seing if it isnt just the sensor.

It can get complicated but here is the steps I would take ...

I would first make sure the batteries are new and installed correctly. Then I would make sure I knew where the IR sensor is on the TV and point the remote directly at the sensor. If it still does not work then I would look at the manual and see if the remote was programmable. If so, I would make sure it was programmed for the TV set. If that didn't work I would have to try and figure out if it is the remote or the TV that wasn't working properly.

One way you can figure which is the problem is try a universal remote on your Hitachi. If that remote works then the remote you bought might be bad. Another way is if the Hitachi remote you bought can be programmed to operate other stuff (like a cable box, vcr or dvd player) then I would program the remote and see if that works. If the Hitachi remote can be programmed to operate other stuff then the tv could be bad.

good luck!

edit ...

hmmm ... two new remotes dont work eh? I'd call Hitachi "just in case" they somehow need to be set up to work on your tv - I would think not, but you can never tell! Since you do have a universal I'd try that too. If they all don't work then I would think your set needs to be looked at. I hope you have some sort of warranty on it.
